Pathology Queensland are excited to welcome applications for an Operational Support Supervisor to join the team and Queensland Children's Hospital! Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland, offering laboratory services in the disciplines of: anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology and genomics. PQ also provides an invaluable service to Queenslanders by supporting a coordinated response to incidents and disasters.
About the role:
As an Operational Support Supervisor, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective pathology services for Queensland Children's Hospital and Pathology Queensland by ensuring compliance with Pathology Queensland, NATA, and ISO standards. You will oversee and coordinate the Central Specimen Reception within the Queensland Children's Hospital Laboratory, ensuring all reception processes meet required standards and operate efficiently and effectively to support quality patient care and laboratory services.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Supervise, co-ordinate, guide and assist in the activities of clinical assistant staff within the Central Specimen Reception service.
- Communicate at a high level with clinical staff and consult with clients, both internal and external to the organisation, to provide effective resolution of complex issues to ensure optimum patient care and service delivery.
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of systems, policies and procedures to support effective and efficient Central Specimen Reception service delivery.
- Apply high level knowledge, skills, experience, and leadership to the Central Specimen Reception service in the Queensland Children's Hospital Laboratory.
- Ensure the Central Specimen Reception service meets or exceeds service delivery KPI.
- Ensure the development of relevant knowledge and expertise by supporting active learning and career development of all staff working in the Central Specimen Reception service.
- Contribute to the QCH laboratory team by working co-operatively and communicating effectively with the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.
Role fit:
You will bring extensive experience in pre-analytical specimen processing and a strong understanding of laboratory operations across multiple disciplines. With proven leadership and coordination skills, you will oversee Central Specimen Reception services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient and compliant laboratory support in line with professional standards and Department of Health objectives. Your commitment to excellence, coupled with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, will enable you to lead teams effectively and foster continuous improvement. You will also be proficient, or able to quickly develop proficiency, in Microsoft Office applications and laboratory information systems such as AUSLAB, while driving quality and service improvement initiatives in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation requirements.
