Drover Ag Recruitment

Cunnamulla

The Role
We are sourcing a hands-on and energetic Assistant Manager to lead operations on an expansive 155,000-acre enterprise located 60km south of Cunnamulla, providing a genuine prospect for personal growth, development and progression under the tutelage of an experienced and respected team.
Our clients are a progressive, family-owned mixed farming enterprise with operations across Queensland and New South Wales, they are leaders in Angus and Ultrablack cattle genetics, Merino wool and prime lamb production, and irrigated cropping, with a strong commitment to innovation, integrity, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Your daily routine will be defined by the stewardship of a 15,000-head organic self-replacing Dorper flock, where you will oversee everything from natural mating cycles and animal husbandry—adhering strictly to organic compliance standards— utilising motorbikes, working dogs, and aerial support to facilitate smooth mustering operations. You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of the livestock program, including managing the Gallagher auto-draft facilities, while simultaneously engaging with the cropping cycle by operating and maintaining six centre pivots for fodder and hay production along the Warrego River.
Beyond the flock, you will play a pivotal role in the seasonal opportunistic cattle trading operation and the seasonal harvesting of rangeland goats, balancing livestock movements with the demands of the property's cropping cycle. Ideally, you are mechanically minded with an interest in earthmoving machinery; however, this is not essential, and there is an opportunity for the right candidate to learn and gain exposure to this area if desired.

You will be empowered to prioritise a "fresh start" culture that allows you to shape a high-performing team from the ground up, recruit and train a team of stationhands, managing their daily workflows while maintaining monthly operational reporting in Excel.
The property is equipped with well-maintained infrastructure, including fairly new yards with a covered lamb lifter and complete perimeter exclusion fencing. Innovation is at the core of their operations, featuring Farmbot-monitored artesian water systems and an extensive water retention system designed to efficiently distribute water across the floodplains. By combining advanced technology with robust infrastructure, it provides a professional and well-resourced platform for an ambitious rising manager to execute a long-term agricultural vision.
The Offer
This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of leading a progressive agricultural business while enjoying an exceptional standard of rural living. You will be provided with a spacious, well-appointed 4-5 bedroom homestead, complete with a swimming pool and beautifully established gardens, creating a comfortable environment for your family.
Furthermore, the property environment is conducive to work-life balance, with potential for casual employment opportunities for your partner in areas such as catering, administration,

or compound and gardening maintenance.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a livestock-focused professional with a passion for agriculture and the drive to help translate our client's expansive development plan into reality. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and driven self-starter with sober habits.

- Demonstrable experience managing Dorper flocks and strong stockmanship
- Knowledge of organic compliance standards (advantageous)
- Prior experience with livestock management technology.
- Experience with modern farm machinery
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Digital literacy
- A capable team of reliable, skilled working dogs.
- Current firearms license or willingness and ability to obtain one.
- Interest or experience in irrigation and earthmoving machinery (not essential)
- A "can-do" attitude towards irrigation operations, with experience or a strong willingness to learn overhead irrigation.
- MC license (advantageous).
