Health Works NSW is a well-established occupational health and allied health business delivering services across NSW.
Our work is diverse and includes Occupational Therapy, NDIS, aged care, DVA, iCare, employment rehabilitation, occupational health and safety, pre-employment testing and other workplace health services.
We are now looking for an experienced Practice & Commercial Manager to work closely with the Director and bring strong commercial, financial and operational leadership to the business.
This is a pivotal senior role for someone who can see the bigger picture, create structure around a growing business and turn ideas into practical, sustainable action.
The opportunity
Working closely with the Director, you will take ownership of the commercial and operational performance of Health Works NSW and lead the coordination of the key business functions that support our clinical team.
Importantly, this role is not about doing everything yourself.
Health Works NSW has administration support as well as external bookkeeping, accounting, IT, HR and other specialist providers. Your role will be to bring these functions together, ensure the right information and systems are in place, and create greater accountability, consistency and commercial visibility across the business.
You will provide the structure and commercial discipline that allows the Director to focus more of her time on clinical leadership, relationships, innovation and the future direction of Health Works NSW.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing commercial and operational leadership across the business.
- Strengthening financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow visibility in conjunction with the accountant and bookkeeper.
- Monitoring business performance, margins, utilisation and other key commercial drivers.
- Establishing and tracking meaningful business, financial and operational KPIs.
- Improving systems, processes and workflows to create greater consistency and efficiency.
- Coordinating and overseeing administration, finance, HR, IT and other external support providers.
- Supporting workforce planning and ensuring the business has the right structure and capability as it grows.
- Strengthening accountability, communication and operational rhythm across a geographically dispersed team.
- Overseeing external providers supporting marketing, branding and positioning.
- Coordinating tenders, commercial opportunities and key business initiatives.
- Identifying risks, inefficiencies and opportunities and translating them into practical actions.
- Supporting the Director with commercial decision-making and ensuring new ideas and opportunities are assessed against operational capacity, financial viability and strategic priorities.
What we’d love you to achieve
During your first 12 months, we would expect you to build a deep understanding of the business and progressively:
- establish clear financial and operational reporting;
- introduce meaningful KPIs and management rhythms;
- streamline key systems and processes;
- clarify roles, responsibilities and accountability;
- strengthen coordination between internal and external business functions; and
- reduce the business’s day-to-day operational reliance on the Director.
About you
You may currently be a Practice Manager, Business Manager, Commercial Manager, Operations Manager or senior finance/operations professional looking for an opportunity to have genuine influence.
You will ideally bring:
- strong commercial and financial capability,
including confidence interpreting financial information and using it to guide decisions;
- experience managing or coordinating business operations across multiple functions;
- the ability to create structure, systems and accountability without unnecessary bureaucracy;
- sound judgement and the confidence to respectfully challenge ideas when required;
- strong organisational and project management capability;
- excellent communication and relationship skills;
- high emotional intelligence and a calm, grounded approach;
- the ability to move comfortably between strategic thinking and practical implementation; and
- experience within healthcare, allied health, professional services or another people-based service business would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
You won’t need to know everything on day one. What matters is that you are commercially astute, curious, organised and comfortable taking ownership.
Why Health Works NSW?
This is an chance to step into an established business with a strong reputation, diverse service offering and an entrepreneurial Director who genuinely wants this person to have influence.
You’ll have the autonomy to improve how the business operates, build stronger commercial foundations and help shape its future.
The role is ideally based in Orange NSW, where you can work closely with the Director and core team. However, we are open to considering Coffs Harbour, Mudgee or another suitable location for an exceptional candidate. Any travel to connect with the wider team would be planned and occasional.
We provide generous remuneration with flexibility depending on the experience and capability of the successful candidate.
If you’re an experienced commercial and operational leader who enjoys bringing clarity, structure and momentum to a business while working alongside a passionate and entrepreneurial owner we’d love to hear from you.
