Worker Assist Tasmania

Tasmania

Worker Assist Tasmania is seeking expressions of interest from suitably skilled
and values-driven people who are interested in joining our Committee of
Management as an ordinary Board member.

This voluntary role provides an opportunity to contribute to the governance,
strategic direction and long-term sustainability of a specialist service that
supports injured workers throughout Tasmania.

About the role
Ordinary Board members work collectively with other members of the
Committee of Management to provide governance oversight, support sound
decision-making and help ensure Worker Assist Tasmania continues to meet
its purpose and obligations.

Board members are expected to act in the best interests of the organisation,
participate actively in meetings, contribute constructively to discussion and
uphold the values of access to justice, fairness, independence and respect.

Skills and experience
We welcome interest from people with a range of backgrounds and
experience. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can
contribute one or more of the following:
• governance, risk or compliance experience
• financial, accounting or audit skills
• legal, workers compensation, workplace relations or community legal
sector experience
• community sector, health, social services or advocacy experience
• strategic planning, communications, fundraising or organisational
development skills

• lived experience relevant to injured workers, vulnerable workers or
access to justice
• robust connections with Tasmanian communities, including regional
communities.

Prior Board or governance experience is welcome but not essential. We are
looking for people who are thoughtful, collaborative, ethical and committed
to supporting positive outcomes for Tasmanian workers.

Time commitment
The Committee of Management meets four times a year, with additional time
required to read papers, contribute to decisions and participate in
occasional governance or strategic activities. The role is voluntary.

Commitment to inclusion
Worker Assist Tasmania values diversity and inclusion. We encourage
expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,
people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with
disability, people with lived experience, people from regional communities
and others who bring diverse perspectives to governance.
