Summary:

The Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor will work alongside the Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre and other services to deliver support to consumers with the aim of reducing the risks associated with alcohol and other drug use. Supporting the development and delivery of evidence based individual and group therapeutic counselling interventions, this role will utilize behavioural change interventions as harm reduction strategies and will operate in accordance with best AOD practice.

Responsibilities:

Support, promote and work in accordance with the Vision, Mission and Values of Aboriginal Community Housing (ACHL) and Kempsey Neighborhood Centres. The AOD Counsellor will offer a diverse range of support to consumers including: counselling; assistance with system navigation; case management; education; and information provision

- Participate as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment.
- Regular debrief with Clinical Supervisor
- Provide flexible responsive supports that connect consumers to both internal and external services that address non-AOD priority needs; Eg.

Social-emotional wellbeing activities.

- Provide support to and share expertise with other staff, and volunteers.
- Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training and team planning workshops.

- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the service model.




- Contribute to ACHL and Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre continuous quality improvement processes.
- Work in accordance with ACHL Code of Conduct & NSW Clinical Care Standards:

- Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment.
- Contribute to and promote the implementation of the Standards on Culturally Secure Practice.

Qualifications:

- A qualification and demonstrated experience in counselling theory and practice.
- A sound knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues, trauma, drug counselling interventions and practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with the ability to build and develop positive relationships with both internal and external consumers.
- Ability to manage and respond to a competing case load and prioritise work requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Personal commitment to promoting equality, diversity and human rights in all aspects of service delivery and proven ability to work with a range of people.
- Excellent computer, organisational and time management skills and the ability to be self-directed.
- Undertake regular clinical support / debrief
- Experience in delivering education and training programs to other providers and community groups.
- Commitment to the right of every person to positive quality housing
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Satisfactory Police, WWC checks
