Our client is a well-established organisation within the construction industry, known for delivering high-quality projects and maintaining a strong reputation. Our client is seeking an Assistant Accountant / Payroll Officer to join their finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional looking to broaden their accounting skills and progress into a more senior finance position over time.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will initially take ownership of the payroll function for approximately 250 employees across weekly and monthly payroll cycles.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process end-to-end weekly and monthly payroll for approximately 250 employees
- Interpret and apply multiple Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs)
- Manage timesheets, leave calculations and payroll adjustments
- Process superannuation and payroll compliance requirements
- Ensure payroll accuracy and legislative compliance
- Prepare payroll reconciliations and reporting
Accounting
- General ledger reconciliations and journal entries
- Bank reconciliations
- Assist with month-end processes
- Support project costing and job costing activities
- Assist with payroll reporting and financial analysis
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives
- Provide support across broader finance functions as required
About You To be successful, you will have:
- Proven experience processing end-to-end payroll
- Experience interpreting and applying EBAs within construction, manufacturing or similar industries
- Solid understanding of payroll legislation, superannuation and compliance requirements
- Exposure to general accounting functions including reconciliations and general ledger work
- Experience with project costing or job costing is highly regarded
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- A proactive attitude and genuine desire to grow into broader accounting responsibilities
