Mayport Consulting is recruiting experienced commercial practitioners for two Melbourne-based consulting opportunities supporting Australian Government and Defence work.

This is a hands-on consulting role for someone who can bring sound judgement, clear written advice and practical commercial discipline to complex client environments. The precise assignment, and the balance of pre-award and post-award work, will depend on your experience and the placement.

The role

You will work independently within client environments and alongside multidisciplinary teams to help establish, administer and improve key commercial arrangements. Post-execution contract management and contract performance are central to the work.

Depending on the assignment, you will:

- Administer contracts and monitor performance against obligations, deliverables, milestones and agreed outcomes.
- Manage variations, change proposals, claims, risks, issues, commercial records and financial or commercial status.
- Engage constructively with suppliers and stakeholders, and support governance, contract and performance meetings.
- Provide practical commercial advice on contracting options, liability and risk allocation, and delivery decisions.
- Develop procurement strategies and prepare tender, evaluation, approval and other decision-ready documentation.
- Support tendering and evaluation activity, including clear commercial analysis and recommendations.
- Use Power BI or comparable tools, where relevant, to analyse commercial and contract data and produce clear performance reporting and insight.
- Apply ASDEFCON and relevant Commonwealth and Defence procurement policy in a practical, defensible way.

This is an individual-contributor consulting role.



It does not include line-management responsibility.

About you

You will be comfortable working independently with clients while knowing when to seek input, test an assumption or bring the right people together. You communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and produce work that is accurate, well structured and useful to decision-makers.

You will bring:

- Experience in Commonwealth Government or Defence commercial, procurement, contracting or contract-management work.
- Hands-on experience managing contracts after execution, including performance, obligations, supplier engagement, variations, claims, risk and governance.
- Strong written skills for commercial advice, tender material, evaluations, approvals and reports.
- Sound commercial judgement and confidence working with client, supplier and internal stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of ASDEFCON and Commonwealth or Defence procurement-policy and governance requirements.

Security requirements

Australian citizenship is required.

Candidates may hold, previously have held, or be eligible to obtain an appropriate AGSVA security clearance.

Location and flexibility The opportunities are Melbourne-based. The balance of office, client-site and hybrid work varies by assignment and security requirements; it will be confirmed for the relevant placement.
