Counsellor & Moorditj Yarning

Part time 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) 2 days in the Moorditj Yarning program and 2 days in counselling program.

Over the last 70 years Relationships Australia WA has been providing relationship support services for individual, couples, families and communities. About the role

We are offering a permanent part time counselling position within the Moorditj Yarning and counselling program at our Mandurah office.

The position is responsible for providing counselling to individuals and couples in the counselling program 2 days a week in addition to culturally safe counselling services to First Nation clients 2 days a week. Providing appropriate support and case work as required. The current vacancy is 4 days a week.

Skills, experience, and qualifications

- Completion of a Degree qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social work or related field.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues and concerns of First Nations people.

- Demonstrated skills in individual and couple counselling.

- Well-developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience of having worked and engaged effectively with both First Nations people and non-first Nations people in a sensitive manner.

- Demonstrated experience and knowledge regarding applicable modalities in relation to the position.

- Good communication skills including negotiation, mediation, and liaison and the ability to empower, and build strong relationships particularly with First Nations people.

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and/or child maltreatment and protection issues.

- Good written communication skills including report writing.

- Experience in organisational,



project management and administrative skills including the ability to use of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

- Effective time management practices and organised work habits.

- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively and collaboratively within a team setting.

- Must have a current Working with Children check or be eligible to get one.

- Possession of a current Western Australian 'C' or 'C-A' Class Driver’s Licence or equivalent
