The Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead the hotel's Finance function and play a critical role as a commercial business partner to the senior leadership team. This is much more than a traditional financial controller position. You will be expected to be visible within the operation, understand how the hotel trades and use financial insight to influence commercial decisions, improve profitability and drive stronger business performance.
Leading a team across finance, purchasing, receiving, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, you will take ownership of the hotel's financial integrity while providing strategic insight to the General Manager, ownership and department heads. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Hotel Accountant or Assistant Financial Controller ready to take the next step into a senior leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the hotel's complete Finance function and work closely with department heads to improve financial performance and profitability
- Act as a commercial business partner to the General Manager and leadership team
- Provide financial insight and recommendations across Rooms, Food & Beverage and Conference & Events
- Take full ownership of financial reporting, month-end processes and financial statements and lead the hotel's budgeting and forecasting processes
- Prepare and present monthly financial and owner reports & monitor revenue, costs, cash flow, debtors and overall business performance
- Maintain strong financial controls, governance and compliance while overseeing the accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing and receiving
- Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, processes and controls
- Maintain strong relationships with ownership, auditors, banks and key stakeholders while leading, coaching and developing a high-performing finance team
- Ensure the effective use of hotel systems including Opera Cloud, Sun System, Zambion and PurchasePlus
Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous senior finance experience within a hotel environment - essential
- CA or CPA qualification with relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to turn financial data into practical business decisions
- Demonstrated experience with hotel financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
- Strong understanding of hotel operations and the relationship between Finance and operational performance
- Experience leading and developing a finance team with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of financial integrity
- The confidence to work closely with General Managers, department heads, ownership and external stakeholders
- Experience with Opera Cloud, Sun System, Zambion payroll and PurchasePlus would be highly regarded
