**Queensland's passenger rail network is entering a period of significant transformation, supported by a major pipeline of rail infrastructure investment and system enhancement projects. The Rail Infrastructure Delivery Office (RIDO) has been established to lead the delivery of this program and oversee some of the state's most significant rail infrastructure projects, including key investments supporting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As Director (Rail Safety), you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring safety remains central to the successful delivery of this complex and high-profile portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director (Rail Delivery & Safety), you will provide independent oversight, expert guidance and assurance across all phases of project delivery, helping to ensure legislative obligations are met, risks are effectively managed, and safety outcomes are consistently achieved.
This is a role for an experienced leader who can translate safety strategy into practical delivery outcomes across a multi-project environment. You will shape and strengthen the systems, governance and assurance mechanisms that support safe project delivery, while providing trusted advice to senior leaders on emerging risks, regulatory requirements and performance improvement opportunities.
You will lead a specialist safety function operating across major rail projects, working closely with project teams, delivery partners, regulators and government stakeholders. Success in the role will rely on your ability to influence outcomes in complex environments,
build productive relationships and maintain focus on both immediate delivery priorities and long-term safety performance.
As the department's Discipline Head for rail safety, you will bring recognised technical expertise and sound judgement to complex safety, compliance and assurance matters. You will contribute to a consistent and integrated approach to rail safety across the broader network, helping ensure projects are delivered in a manner that supports operational resilience, public confidence and sustainable outcomes for Queensland.
The role offers significant scope, autonomy and accountability. It requires a leader who can navigate complex regulatory environments, provide clear direction during critical incidents and assurance activities, and foster a culture where safety is actively embedded in decision-making, planning and delivery.
We are seeking a senior safety professional with substantial experience within largescale infrastructure programs, ideally in rail or other high-risk transport environments. You will combine strong leadership capability with deep knowledge of rail safety legislation, accreditation requirements, risk management and safety assurance practices. Most importantly, you will be motivated by the opportunity to deliver tangible outcomes that support the protected and effective delivery of Queensland's growing rail infrastructure program.
Applications will remain current for 12 months.
