Our Westhaven Aged Care Community in Footscray have some lovely Spanish, Italian, Polish &

- Vietnamese heritage residents who are in need of Companionship.

Becoming a BaptistCare Companion you have the chance to improve the well-being of older people in aged care homes, through arts and crafts, physical movement and outdoor activities, conversation, storytelling, meaningful connection.

No experience necessary, just a desire to visit an older person and create a special, meaningful connection.

What kind of Volunteer are we looking for?

- Someone who can speak the Spanish, Italian, Polish or Vietnamese language and provide companionship for older people of this cultural background
- Enthusiastic
- Kind and caring
- Flexible and adaptable to any given situation
- Able to work independently/unsupervised
- A can-do attitude
- Strong verbal communication

We want to hear from you if you are curious, sociable, and passionate about combating loneliness for some of the most vulnerable members in our community.

Volunteers can assist in a number of ways, including:

- Activities such as reading, music, tabletop games, gardening, arts and crafts
- Companionship and conversation (chat about shared and common interests, reminiscing on old stories)
- Physical activities and exercise, including walking around the home’s gardens, enjoying fresh air, having a game of lawn bowls
- Culturally specific and individually appropriate support to enhance the well-being of our older people.

Time Required

Ideally, we are looking for volunteers who can donate 1 or more hours weekly, anytime between Monday to Friday between 9.00am to 5.00pm Do you have a friend who you'd like by your side, we are looking for a few people to support us in this role so spread the word!

Training

We offer a comprehensive induction and ongoing training, ensuring you're supported every step of the way - 100% of the time.
