About the role:
Our valued client specialises in ship repair, maintenance, and marine engineering solutions, providing services across the commercial, fishing and defence marine sectors. We require an experienced fitter to come onboard to remove, strip, repair and install machinery & associated mechanical systems including but not limited to propeller shafts, pumps and engines.
Responsibilities:
- To identify safety hazards and either remove, reduce or control imminent and serious risks or report them immediately to the HSEQ Manager
- Identify environmental hazards, assess and control environmental risk
- Ensure that you are able to carry out your duties with no risk of injury to yourself and/or others
- Comply with the Personal Protective Equipment policy and safe working procedures
- Participate in Safety training, toolbox meetings and understand the policies and procedures as set out by the company
- To present for work in a condition in which you are able to carry out your work in a fit and proper manner
- Participate in implementing prevention programs and strategies for waste treatment and disposal systems, contaminated and hazardous substances and minimising air, sea and land pollutants
- Commit to the sustainable use of natural resources
- To not commence a task until completely understanding the scope of required work and that the scope is within your capabilities
- Meet the needs of internal and external customers
- Create products and/or deliver services that meet company and customer standards
- Understand drawings or specifications to determine methods and sequences of operations
- Check prepared metal components for accuracy, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial gauges, thickness gauges Lift and hoist components on to working surface, lay out and mark reference points and align parts using appropriate measuring instruments
- Drill holes and tap threads for bolting parts together and assemble parts and sub-assemblies
- Verify alignment of and clearances between components using measuring instruments
- Shrink-fit parts during assembly using heating and cooling processes
- Fit parts using mechanical processes, hydraulic press etc
- To undertake all other tasks including multi-skilled operations within your capabilities as directed by your supervisor from time to time

Requirements:
- Trade Cert in Fitting
- Welding cert
- Min 12-18 months experience in marine fitting
- Hydraulic experience - desirable
- Ability to lift up to 2- kilos, to maneuver in and out of confined spaces, the ability to work at heights and work in hot noisy and dusty surroundings.
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Demonstrated arc welding capabilities to a competent level
- Effective communication
- Teamwork oriented
- Enthusiastic self-motivated
- Good organisational & time management skills
- Competence in reading & understanding plans and specification drawings.
- Ability to pass a LAB D&A;
