About the role

Three information sessions are offered on 25th August 2026, 1730-1830, 7th September 2026, 1730-1830 and 29th September 2026 ,1730-1830 in the Administration & Learning Services Building, 2 Karrayarta Drive, Glenside. This information session will provide program information and academic requirements the applicant will need to have prior to lodging their application. We encourage applications from graduate nurses who are expecting to complete their Bachelor of Nursing studies in 2026, with their AHPRA registration pending and who are intending to apply to university to commence their Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing in February 2027.

As a beginning practitioner in Mental Health Nursing, the Graduate Mental Health Nurse with the support and supervision of a designated preceptor is accountable to the Nurse Unit Manager for the provision of direct mental health nursing care to a designated group of consumers. Nurses classified at this level provide nursing services in health service settings.

Nurse accepts accountability for their own standard of nursing care and for activities delegated to others. Within the framework of the National Mental Health Policy and National Standards and in a manner consistent with the stated vision and values of SA Health, the Graduate Mental Health Nurse uses the process of nursing to deliver direct and comprehensive nursing care and individual case management to consumers within a designated practice setting. The provision of education, counselling and group work is considered essential components of care which are directed towards the attainment of optimum consumer health and recovery. This involves consultation and liaison with other professional disciplines and non-governmental organisations.

Qualifications

- Registered as a Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and holds a current practising certificate.
- Enrolled or Undertaking studies toward a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing.
