Join Sydney Waters Growth and Development team on a 12-month contract supporting growth planning, which will impact Sydney now and into the future.
About the Role:
This role supports the NSW Government's housing targets and growth development across Greater Sydney and the Illawarra by providing case management for statutory referrals, including planning instruments, planning proposals, development applications, and state significant development and infrastructure projects.
You will coordinate statutory referral responses and drive process improvements to support housing and employment growth targets. The role also ensures insights from referrals inform Sydney Water's planning and capital delivery programs, while fostering early engagement and collaboration with NSW planning authorities, including the new Development Coordination Authority.
Responsibilities:
- Manage Sydney Water’s referral databases and NSW Planning Portal and DCA interactions ensuring development referrals are tracked and responded to within statutory timeframes.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop high-quality responses and ensure actions are progressed.
- Provide advice on statutory referral processes and emerging planning initiatives.
- Build relationships with NSW planning agencies to improve data sharing, collaboration, and problem solving.
- Lead Sydney Water responses to planning proposals, development applications, state significant developments, and strategic land use and infrastructure plans impacting customer services.
- Support development trend reporting to inform planning decisions.
- Contribute to Growth Analytics initiatives,
including public-facing documents such as the Growth Servicing Plan and other improvement projects.
About You: Ideally you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Urban Planning (or a similarly related discipline.) Alternatively, you will have some experience in a similar government planning department. In addition, we are looking for:
- Experience in urban planning, water services planning, development servicing or other relevant industry experience.
- Knowledge of the NSW planning processes and development servicing.
- Excellent communication skills, including the preparation of written and graphical presentations using databases, analysis and other tools.
- Experience in engaging in stakeholder relationships and interfaces involving internal and external parties.
- Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver business outcomes.
