Melbourne
We're a Melbourne-founded direct-to-consumer jewellery brand, profitable and growing 65% year-on-year for three straight years, shipping worldwide from our own warehouse on Shopify. The founder leads brand and product; we're now hiring the operations leader to match the growth.
This is a rare seat: full ownership of operations at a brand small enough that everything you build is yours, growing fast enough that it matters immediately.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- Warehouse & fulfilment — lead the Warehouse Manager and pick/pack team (~10 at peak); throughput, accuracy, and Black Friday readiness
- Inventory & forecasting — reorder points, safety stock, seasonal planning; end stockouts on hero SKUs for good
- Procurement & suppliers — ordering, price negotiation, and quality claims with our overseas manufacturers
- Quality control & returns — inbound inspection standards, return-reason data, and driving root causes down
- Customer service (via the CS Team Lead) — SLAs, escalations, and the feedback loop into operations
- Systems & tooling — roll out our recent cloud WMS, turn founder-dependent know-how into documented process, and automate whatever shouldn't be manual
The list above is the territory, not a task list. Your first 90 days: audit the whole operation, baseline the numbers, decide the priority order yourself — including what we build, what we buy, and who we hire next — and own peak trading end-to-end. You'll have genuine authority to match: budget, hiring, and the freedom to change how things are done.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Built ops at this stage before — 6+ years in DTC/ecommerce operations, including leadership at a brand that scaled fast (think $5M → $20M+). You've built functions,
not just run inherited ones, and you've led a warehouse through at least one BFCM peak
- Fluent in modern ops tooling — deep experience with a cloud WMS (ShipHero, Peoplevox, Cin7, Unleashed, NetSuite or similar) in a Shopify stack; leading a WMS rollout yourself is highly regarded
- AI-native builder — we have a startup mentality: we automate, script, and build custom tooling rather than throwing people at problems. You use AI tools daily and either write scripts yourself or partner naturally with an engineer who does
- An owner, not a caretaker — comfortable auditing a messy, fast-moving business, making calls with imperfect information, trying things, and killing what doesn't work. You'd rather ship a fix this week and refine it than write a proposal
- Mandarin strongly preferred — like many global ecommerce brands we operate across English and Mandarin daily (our supply chain and parts of our team are bilingual), and a leader who works natively in both will be dramatically more effective here
- Close to the floor — warehouse-based around 3 days/week (daily during peak).
SUCCESS IN YEAR ONE
Zero stockouts on top SKUs. Return rate measurably down, with data behind it. Peak shipped on time without founder involvement. Founder's operational involvement reduced to a weekly review.
THE OFFER
$160,000–$190,000 + 12% super + performance bonus against a scorecard you'll help write. Direct reports: Warehouse Manager, CS Team Lead, Procurement Specialist — roles you'll help choose or shape. You report to the founder, who wants to hand operations over, not hover over them. As we scale, this seat grows into COO.
- We review applications daily and move fast for the right person.
