About the Role:

We are looking for a Float Operator to support our transport requirements across the Pilbara. You will self-manage the loading, unloading and operation of our 50-tonne float (drake spreader) from our civil and mining equipment yard in Port Hedland.

This position is open to both Local and FIFO applicants.

Role Requirements:

Transport of Equipment

- Load, secure, transport, and unload heavy machinery (e.g. excavators, dozers, graders, loaders) to and from site locations.
- Ensure all loads are correctly restrained in accordance with WA road transport regulations and company procedures.

Pre-Start & Inspections

- Conduct daily pre-start checks on truck and trailer, identifying and reporting defects, damage, or maintenance requirements.

Loading & Securing

- Sound knowledge of load restraint practices, with the ability to apply chains, dogs, binders, and other restraint equipment in accordance with WA road transport regulations and company procedures.

Compliance & Safety

- Adhere to all Main Roads WA and site-specific requirements, including permits, pilot/escort requirements, and route planning.
- Follow fatigue management laws and maintain logbooks where required.
- Comply with all site safety procedures, inductions, and SWMS/JHAs.

Route Planning & Permits

- Plan transport routes considering height, width, and weight restrictions.
- Obtain and comply with oversize/overmass permits where required.

Communication

- Liaise with supervisors, site personnel, escort drivers, and clients to coordinate movements.




- Provide updates on delivery times, delays, or issues.

Housekeeping & Documentation

- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of truck and trailer.
- Complete delivery dockets, inspection reports, and transport documentation accurately.

About you: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following:

- Valid Australian manual driver’s licence, and able to drive road ranger gearboxes
- Minimum 4 years of experience in civil machinery and heavy haulage
- Valid WA MC/HC driver's license
- OHS Construction Card or NRT – Construction Industry Induction (White)
- Previous experience loading, unloading and driving civil/mining equipment
