We are looking for an experienced Finance Consultant with strong IFRS 9 expertise to join a consulting engagement supporting a financial services organisation in Melbourne.
This is an chance to apply your technical accounting and financial instruments expertise to a project focused on IFRS 9, expected credit loss (ECL), financial reporting and credit risk .
About the role
IFRS 9 plays a critical role in the timely recognition of credit losses, accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance. The engagement will involve supporting the assessment and application of IFRS 9 requirements, including ECL modelling, financial instrument classification and measurement, and forward-looking credit risk considerations .
You will work closely with Finance and other key stakeholders to translate complex IFRS 9 requirements into practical accounting, reporting and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical finance and accounting expertise across IFRS 9 / AASB 9
- Support the review and assessment of Expected Credit Loss (ECL) methodologies and outcomes
- Analyse financial instruments and their classification and measurement
- Assess the accounting impact of credit risk and changes in expected losses
- Support the application of forward-looking and macroeconomic assumptions within ECL assessments
- Partner with Finance, Risk,
Treasury and other stakeholders to resolve technical accounting matters
- Prepare clear analysis, recommendations and documentation for senior stakeholders
- Support financial reporting, controls, process improvements and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to broader finance transformation or IFRS 9-related initiatives as required
What We're Looking For You will be a strong fit if you have:
- Hands-on IFRS 9 / AASB 9 experience within banking, financial services or a similar environment
- Strong knowledge of financial instruments accounting and ECL
- Experience with credit impairment / expected credit loss methodologies
- Understanding of how credit risk, financial reporting and regulatory requirements interact
- Strong technical accounting and analytical capabilities
- Experience working with senior Finance, Risk or Treasury stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical recommendations
- Previous consulting, advisory or project-based experience is highly regarded
- CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification is desirable
