About us
The Prison Mental Health Service is a specialist team within Central Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (CQMHAODS), delivering mental health care across Capricornia Correctional Centre and Capricornia Correctional Farm. Working with a energetic population of up to 1,050 male offenders, the service supports people at every stage of their custodial journey - from reception into the correctional system, through transfers between facilities and right through to transition back into the community.
A strong multidisciplinary model brings together a range of clinicians to provide coordinated, person-centred care, with close collaboration alongside the offender health team to support health and wellbeing outcomes.
About the role
- Provide culturally safe, person-centred mental health support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients of the Prison Mental Health Service, working collaboratively with the clinical team and key stakeholders across the care continuum.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with the community to strengthen culturally responsive care pathways, improve service access, and support community connection and participation.
- Deliver culturally informed education, health promotion, prevention and early intervention activities for individuals, families and community groups, supporting holistic wellbeing and recovery.
- Support coordinated, recovery-focused care planning, with an emphasis on continuity of care and effective transition support for clients moving from custody back into the community.
About you
Mandatory qualification/s: Applicants must hold a Certificate IV or Diploma in one of the following:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
- Mental Health
- Alcohol and Other Drugs
- Mental Health Peer Work

What we offer
Total monthly remuneration value of up to $9,863 p.m. is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $39.20 - $52.32 p.h.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
