IT Lead The Role
AIM Defence develops advanced defence technologies that protect military personnel and critical infrastructure from emerging threats. As a rapidly growing Australian defence company, we require a secure, reliable and scalable IT setting to support engineering, manufacturing and operational activities. We are seeking an experienced IT Lead to manage and support our technology environment while leading a small internal IT team.
What You’ll do The IT Lead is responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance and security of AIM Defence’s IT systems, networks and cloud services. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical capability across Microsoft 365, Azure, networking, cyber security and end-user support.
Working closely with the Co-CEO to manage IT priorities and allocate tasks to the IT team, the key responsibilities cover:
Microsoft O365 and Azure:
- Act as the senior escalation point for technical support matters.
- Administer or manage delegation to support Microsoft 365 services.
- Support collaboration platforms and productivity tools.
- Maintain documentation and system configurations.
- Administer and maintain Azure cloud services.
- Manage identity, authentication and access management.
- Configure and maintain Azure security controls.
- Monitor cloud resources, performance and availability.
- Support backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions.
- Maintain and support Networking Infrastructure:
- Perform network monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Manage hardware refreshes and infrastructure upgrades.
- Ensure IT systems remain reliable and secure.
Cyber Security & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with the Essential Eight framework.
- Manage endpoint protection,
patching and vulnerability remediation.
- Monitor and respond to security alerts and incidents.
- Support DISP and Defence security requirements.
- Manage and maintain security policies and technical controls.
Technical Support
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support.
- Resolve complex infrastructure, networking and Microsoft 365 issues.
- Support onboarding and offboarding activities.
- Assist staff with hardware, software and connectivity issues.
- Deliver excellent customer service across all departments.
Vendor & Asset Management
- Manage relationships with IT suppliers and service providers.
- Oversee hardware procurement and software licensing.
- Maintain accurate IT asset registers.
- Coordinate warranty, maintenance and support agreements.
What you’ll bring
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience IT infrastructure, systems administration or network management.
- Previous experience leading or supervising technical staff.
- Strong Microsoft 365 & Azure administration experience.
- Experience managing Intune and endpoint security solutions.
- Strong networking knowledge including switching, routing, wireless and firewalls.
- Experience supporting Windows environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience implementing and maintaining cyber security controls.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Have excellent time management skills as you will need to be able to prioritise workloads and shift focus as necessary. Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable
- Defence, manufacturing or technology sector experience.
- Essential Eight experience.
- Microsoft certifications (Azure, M365 or Security).
- Cisco, Fortinet or equivalent networking certifications.
- Experience supporting security-cleared environments.
As a Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain a Baseline clearance.
