About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior SHEQ Officer to join our team at our Burwood office in Victoria. This is an entry-level chance to support the SHEQ Manager and management team in delivering high-quality Safety, Health, Environment and Quality services across Austunnel’s operations and sites.

You will contribute to our strong safety culture, continuous improvement of Austunnel’s Integrated Management System, risk management, workplace inspections, incident support and compliance with regulatory, client and ISO standards on major tunnelling and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

- Support the SHEQ Manager and management team to ensure SHEQ services are delivered to the highest standards in accordance with regulatory requirements and performance standards
- Assess risks and potential SHEQ hazards across all Austunnel sites
- Support continuous improvement of Austunnel’s Integrated Management System to ensure optimal performance
- Monitor the performance of the Austunnel and subcontractor workforce to ensure Integrated Management System requirements are met or exceeded
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of SHEQ communications including SHEQ alerts, prestarts and toolbox talks
- Promptly report all relevant SHEQ events and assist with the investigation and close-out of incidents, including development and implementation of corrective actions
- Assist with scheduled and impromptu workplace inspections and evaluations
- Ensure that all Austunnel,



client and subcontractor SHEQ documentation (training records, incident and injury data, hazards, defect reports, etc.) is appropriately maintained
- Consult and communicate with clients, contractors, site supervisors, management and staff on SHEQ matters
- Support the maintenance of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and AS/NZS 4801 systems to ensure compliance and continued certification
- Ensure hazards, opportunities for improvement and concerns raised are recorded, reported where necessary and acted upon in a timely manner
- Manage IPs return to work.
- Perform other duties as required to support Austunnel operations

About You To be successful in this role, you will possess:

- At least 2 years’ construction industry experience with exposure to a developed site safety culture
- Minimum certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
- General Construction Induction (White Card)
- Current First Aid certificate
- Valid driver’s licence
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong organisational, time management and multi-tasking abilities with high attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence and ability to work in high-pressure environments, a can-do attitude that motivates others, willingness to learn and develop SHEQ skills, and a strong work ethic
- Preferred: Confined space trained and working at heights trained
- Well regarded: Completion of a Trade, current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Bachelor’s Degree in OH&S;
