Job Title – Kong API Gateway Developer

Job Location – Sydney, Australia

Experience – 5+ Years

Employment Type – Contractual Work Authorization: Applicants must have valid working/unlimited working rights in Australia. (Visa sponsorship or transfer is not available for this role) Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Kong API Gateway Developer to design, configure, automate, and manage API Gateway solutions using Kong. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with API Gateway technologies, Kong configuration, automation, and API management. Key Responsibilities

Configure and manage Kong API Gateway, including routes, services, consumers, and plugins.



Develop and customize Kong plugins, including Lua-based scripting where required. Implement declarative configuration using tools such as decK.

Automate API Gateway deployments through CI/CD pipelines. Monitor API Gateway performance, availability, and overall API observability. Troubleshoot API Gateway, routing, authentication, and integration-related issues.

Support secure and scalable API management across environments. Collaborate with DevOps, development, and integration teams to streamline API deployments and operations.

Required

Skills

Strong hands-on experience with Kong Gateway / Kong API Gateway. Good understanding of API Gateway and API Management concepts.

Experience with Kong configuration, routes, services, plugins, and policies. Knowledge of Lua scripting is preferred.

Experience with decK / declarative configuration is an advantage. Understanding of CI/CD and deployment automation. Good troubleshooting and API monitoring/observability skills.

Experience with cloud and container platforms such as AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes.
