Position
Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Lead Applications Manager/Tendering Manager to join our growing team based at our Victoria branch in Melbourne. Reporting to General Manager, this senior, hands-on role is focused on leading the applications team, driving the end-to-end bid and proposal process, and actively engaging in technical sales. Working closely with Area Sales Managers, you will participate in client clarification meetings, architect technical solutions, and manage vendor inputs.
While this position does not execute post-award projects directly, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers during handover to ensure a seamless transition. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, a deep understanding of pre-sales principles, and experience strategically engaging OEMs, EPCs, and end-users to grow AFH’s engineering capabilities.
Key Responsibilities

Technical
Sales & Sales Collaboration
Area Sales Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with Area Sales Managers (ASMs) to drive technical sales strategies, identify client needs, and position technical solutions effectively.
Client Clarification Meetings: Lead and participate directly in technical clarification meetings, bid defences, and commercial discussions with clients and consultants.
Solution Architecture: Act as the primary technical subject matter expert during the pre-sales phase to resolve client queries and refine project scope.
- Bid Management & Proposal Leadership
Lead Bid Strategy: Drive and manage the end-to-end bid and proposal process, ensuring high-quality, competitive, and timely submissions.
Hands-On Proposals: Actively prepare detailed technical and commercial quotations, taking a hands-on approach to complex engineering problems and proposal generation.
Vendor & OEM Coordination: Engage directly with OEMs, sub-vendors, and suppliers to secure technical data, baseline pricing, and commercial inputs for accurate estimating.
Costing & Scope Accuracy: Define technical boundaries, monitor estimate budgets during the proposal phase, and highlight risks or scope gaps prior to submission.
- Handover & PM Collaboration
Project Handover: Lead the formal transition of awarded projects from the Applications team to Project Managers (PMs).
Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with PMs post-handover to review technical specifications, sub-vendor commitments, design assumptions, and project risks.
Ongoing Advisory: Serve as an ongoing technical consultant to PMs during project kick-off and early-stage design reviews.
- Quality, Compliance & Team Leadership
Team Leadership: Direct and manage the daily operations of the Applications team, maintaining fast response times and high accuracy across all bids.
Compliance Verification: Ensure all proposed equipment designs, datasheets, and solutions comply with customer specifications and industry standards.
Continuous Improvement: Participate actively in departmental strategy, staff development, and Integrated Management System (IMS) audits and initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or better) in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or similar).
10+ years’ experience in project execution in Oil & Gas or associated industries.
Proficiency in understanding rotating equipment, pumping systems, compressors, and engineered packages. Familiarity with API 610, API 685, and API 675 standards is a must.
