Lead SAP BusinessObjects Data Engineer (EL1 Equivalent)

Location: Canberra (ACT), Melbourne (VIC) or Brisbane (QLD)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (onsite for the first 6 weeks, then hybrid subject to business requirements)

Contract: Initial 12 months with extension options up to 24 months

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain a Baseline Security Clearance

We are seeking an experienced Lead SAP BusinessObjects Data Engineer to support a major Australian Government program. This role is ideal for a senior data engineering professional with strong expertise in SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ), Power BI, enterprise reporting, data engineering, and data visualisation. You will lead the design, development, migration, and optimisation of business intelligence and reporting solutions while providing technical leadership across complex enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise data and reporting solutions.

Design, develop, and maintain SAP BusinessObjects Universes, Web Intelligence (WebI) reports, dashboards, and reporting frameworks.

Deliver data engineering solutions with integrated reporting and visualisation capabilities.

Support the migration and modernisation of SAP BusinessObjects reporting assets to contemporary BI platforms.

Design and develop Power BI dashboards and visualisations that meet business and technical requirements.

Develop scalable data models, ETL processes, and enterprise reporting solutions.

Manage production releases, deployments, and post-implementation support.

Implement best practices for data governance, security, quality, performance, and reporting standards.

Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, developers, and project teams to deliver successful outcomes.

Prepare solution designs, technical documentation, specifications,



and operational support documentation.

Conduct peer reviews, quality assurance activities, and testing reviews.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to project teams.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and process optimisation.

Required Skills & Experience

Extensive experience with SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ) including Universes, Web Intelligence (WebI), and enterprise reporting.

Solid experience developing Power BI dashboards and visualisation solutions.

Proven experience in enterprise data engineering, ETL development, and data warehouse solutions.

Strong SQL skills with Oracle, SQL Server, or similar enterprise databases.

Experience in data modelling, database design, and reporting architecture.

Experience managing complex reporting migration and modernisation projects.

Strong understanding of data governance, information management, security, and quality assurance.

Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and documentation skills.

Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.

Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in complex environments.
