Leading Hand Electrician – Industrial & Agricultural
$55–$65 per hour + penalty rates + profit share | Company vehicle | Toowoomba Proudly recognised as the 2025 Toowoomba Small Business of the Year for Property, Construction and Development, ST8 Wide Electrical has provided dependable electrical solutions across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs since 2010.
We specialise in agricultural and industrial electrical work, including feed mills, processing facilities, pumping systems, telemetry, automation and control systems.
We’re looking for an experienced Leading Hand Electrician who can lead from the front, support our tradespeople and apprentices, and help deliver quality work safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who takes pride in their work, communicates well and enjoys helping a team perform at its best.

- Standard hours of 7:00 am–3:30 pm Monday to Thursday

Occasional overtime, weekend work and participation in a rotating on-call roster will be required.
About the Role
As Leading Hand Electrician, you will work alongside the team while helping coordinate the safe and efficient delivery of daily site activities.
Your responsibilities will include
- Leading and coordinating electricians and apprentices on site
- Planning daily work and allocating tasks across the team
- Completing industrial and agricultural installations, maintenance and breakdown work
- Troubleshooting and resolving electrical faults
- Monitoring workmanship, productivity and project progress
- Ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant standards
- Communicating with clients, supervisors and the operations team
- Identifying materials, equipment and labour requirements
- Maintaining accurate job notes, timesheets and project records
- Mentoring apprentices and supporting the development of less-experienced team members
- Identifying potential variations, delays or site issues early
- Taking ownership of jobs from commencement through to completion
- Participating in the rotating after-hours on-call roster
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has solid commercial, industrial or agricultural electrical experience
- Can confidently lead a small team while remaining hands-on
- Takes ownership and follows jobs through
- Communicates clearly with clients, apprentices and management
- Has strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Can plan, prioritise and manage changing site requirements
- Maintains high standards of workmanship and attention to detail
- Demonstrates initiative and a proactive attitude
- Is reliable,
accountable and committed to working as part of one team
- Has a robust commitment to safety and company procedures
Previous supervisory or leading-hand experience is preferred; however, we would also consider an experienced electrician who is ready to take the next step into leadership.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold:
- Current Queensland Electrical Mechanic Licence
- Current Queensland driver licence
- Construction Industry White Card
- Current CPR and LVR qualifications
- Australian working rights
Desirable Qualifications
The following qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Hazardous Area certification
- Industrial automation, PLC, VSD or telemetry experience
- HR truck licence
- Confined Space and Gas Testing certification
- EWP licence—under and over 11 metres
- Forklift licence
- Excavator licence
