At Banking Circle you will be empowered to make an impact every day. As Legal Counsel you will have the opportunity to provide legal support to Banking Circle’s current operations and contribute to shaping its future expansion and growth.
We offer a hybrid work model for our employees to allow for flexibility and productivity. However, we do expect you to spend most of your time in the office to build community and efficiency in the team.
Exciting work is waiting for you
- Drafting and reviewing contracts and other documents
- Conducting legal research and draft memorandums
- Developing and drafting internal procedures
- Providing advice and legal support to other functions of the bank by identifying legal risks and opportunities and proposing innovative solutions
- Maintaining client document templates and general and specific business terms
- Negotiating supplier arrangements and agreements
- Supporting complaint handling
- Actively monitoring for regulatory updated and advising on their impact
- Providing legal support on disputes and litigation
- Assisting with corporate secretarial matters.
Things we’ll look for on your CV
As the ideal candidate you will have at least three years’ post-qualified experience gained at a top-tier law firm, together with a strong combination of legal knowledge and interpersonal skills.
If you have experience working in financial services regulation, an understanding of the Australian financial services regulatory framework and a working knowledge of payments in Australia are highly desirable.
You will be admitted to practice in Australia or overseas and hold a current practicing certificate.
You have experience drafting and negotiating contracts and engaging with stakeholders on complex matters. You are a collaborative team player with a friendly, open attitude and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different functions. You communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally, adapting complex legal concepts into practical guidance that can be easily understood by non-legal stakeholders and clients.
Your written communication is precise and structured, particularly when preparing documentation, procedures, policies, and legal correspondence.
You are highly organized, capable of managing your own workload independently,
and able to drive projects through to completion. You demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, identifying root causes and developing practical solutions. You are proactive and forward-thinking, anticipating potential issues and taking initiative to address them before they arise.
Finally, you are versatile and adaptable in a changing environment, embracing both planned and unexpected changes with a positive attitude and a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement. You thrive in a collaborative setting while maintaining the autonomy and accountability required to deliver high-quality legal support.
