Our client is looking for a National Manager Communications to lead communications activity across a portfolio of high-profile national programs. This is an initial 6-month maternity leave cover position, with the possibility of a further 6-month extension.
Location: Canberra – this role is Canberra-based and requires office attendance Tuesday to Thursday, with the flexibility to work from home Monday and Friday.
Salary: $130,000 – $140,000 + super

With a strong focus on community engagement, national participation and celebrating Australians, the organisation works closely with government, media, corporate partners and a broad national network.

You’ll take ownership of the organisation’s national communications strategy and play a key role in shaping how its programs, people and stories are presented to the Australian community.
Working closely with senior leaders, government stakeholders, media, agencies and corporate partners, you’ll bring together strategic communications, media relations, content and campaign activity to maximise engagement and editorial coverage.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead the development and delivery of national communications and marketing strategies.
- Shape key messages and communications for high-profile national programs.
- Develop compelling written content including speeches, scripts, reports,
media material and campaign content.
- Work closely with media agencies to identify and maximise editorial opportunities.
- Lead communications activity around major national events and programs.
- Work with creative and external agency partners across digital, social media, advertising and promotional activity.
- Manage media and photography requirements around major national events.
The person we’re looking for This is a role for a strong communications generalist who can also get into the detail.
You’ll bring robust communications and public relations experience, with a track record of delivering creative campaigns and communications outcomes across complex programs or government environments.
You’ll be confident advising senior stakeholders, developing messaging and written content, managing external agencies and identifying opportunities to generate positive media coverage.
A qualification in communications, public relations, marketing or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who can move comfortably between big-picture strategy and hands-on delivery – whether that means advising senior executives, developing a communications plan, writing a speech or working with media on a major national event.
