About the Role

We are seeking a Physician Advisor based in Australia who will play a pivotal role in implementing and refining our physician outreach process to obtain patient referrals for a clinical trial studying Niemann-Pick disease.

You will be our clinical voice with Australian physicians — the person who can speak peer-to-peer with a paediatric neurologist in Sydney or a clinical geneticist in Perth about which of their patients might be candidates, and why this trial is worth their time. Australia's rare disease community is small, highly networked, and concentrated in a handful of tertiary centres; credibility and a genuine understanding of how referrals actually move through it matter more here than volume of contacts. Through dedicated communication and strategic relationship building, this position is key in advancing Leapcure's mission of connecting patients with life-changing medical research opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

- Actively grow our outreach network across Australia by adding current physicians, hospital departments, and allied health professionals to our contact list — including paediatric neurologists, clinical geneticists, metabolic physicians, paediatric endocrinologists, genetic counsellors, and the physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and neuropsychology teams who follow these patients longitudinally.
- Map and open doors at relevant institutions across all study sites: tertiary paediatric hospitals and children's health networks, statewide clinical genetics and metabolic services,



adult metabolic and neurogenetics units (Niemann-Pick disease type C frequently presents in adolescence or adulthood and may sit with adult neurology), and private specialist rooms.
- Build relationships with the Australian and New Zealand rare disease ecosystem, including professional bodies working in lysosomal and inherited metabolic disease — for example the Human Genetics Society of Australasia and its inborn errors of metabolism special interest group, the child neurology and neurology societies, and relevant paediatric subspecialty groups.
- Increase the engagement level of physicians and healthcare providers, as evidenced by higher response rates, increased referrals, and more in-depth discussions about the trial.
- Effectively communicate and build relationships with healthcare professionals to significantly increase patient referrals.
- Provide insights and feedback on the physician outreach process, including what works in the Australian context and what doesn't — messaging, channels, timing, and the practical realities of public hospital outpatient pathways, private specialist practice, GP referral behaviour, and interstate referral to tertiary centres.
- Advise on clinically and culturally appropriate materials for physician audiences, including how to reach clinicians serving rural, remote, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Maintain structured communication with the Leapcure team, providing weekly updates on outreach progress, challenges, and strategies.

Qualifications

Required

- Medical degree with current specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) in Paediatric Neurology, or a closely adjacent specialty with substantial paediatric neurometabolic practice — clinical genetics or metabolic medicine, for example. Fellows in training WILL be considered. FRACP or equivalent recognised fellowship.
- Strong working knowledge of the Australian healthcare system,



including the public/private divide, Medicare and MBS referral requirements, how patients move between primary care and tertiary services, and how referrals into statewide genetics and metabolic services actually happen in practice.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly conveying complex medical information to a diverse range of medical professionals.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with physicians, hospital departments, and allied health teams.
- Strong ethical grounding in handling sensitive information, including familiarity with Australian privacy obligations relating to health information.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Comfort working remotely, managing time effectively, and collaborating asynchronously with a distributed team.
- Commitment to equity in healthcare, cultural safety, and inclusion of diverse patient populations in research.

Preferred

- Clinical or research experience with Niemann-Pick disease (particularly type C) or other lysosomal storage disorders, including familiarity with how therapies for these conditions are accessed and monitored in Australia.
- An existing referral network among Australian paediatric neurologists, clinical geneticists, metabolic physicians, and tertiary paediatric centres.
- Additional community languages are a plus.

Terms

- Remote, based in Australia. Occasional domestic travel to conferences or tertiary centres may be discussed.
- Independent contractor engagement.
- Part-time and flexible. Our team is US-based, so some overlap is needed once a week for 30 mins for a meeting— in practice this usually means early morning AEST/AEDT, which lines up with the US afternoon. We'll work out a rhythm that's sustainable for you.
