About the Role An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Production Manager to join our Land Based Operations team looking after the Truck Production & Yard Truck Teams within the Equipment Processing Centre at Laverton North. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing day-to-day operational performance, driving process improvements, supporting safe work practices, and ensuring operational KPIs are achieved.
The Production Manager will provide leadership and direction to work teams, support Team Leaders, and help maximise labour and resource allocation across the depot. The role will also work closely with other departments to ensure customer and schedule expectations are met, while promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
This role is suited to a proactive and practical leader who can build strong teams, communicate effectively, support performance outcomes, and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a confident and experienced operational leader with a strong background in workshop, production, logistics, automotive, heavy vehicle, or technical services environments.
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience leading teams in a workshop, production, technical services, heavy vehicle, or operational environment.
- Robust people leadership skills, including the ability to coach, support, and develop Team Leaders and employees
- A strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
- Experience managing operational performance, labour allocation, workflow, KPIs, and deadlines.
- Highly developed communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to identify business needs, recommend improvements, and support implementation of process changes.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Competency using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Desirable
- Certificate IV in a trade background, such as Vehicle Mechanic or Mechanical Engineering (preferred but not essential).
- Experience as a Senior Workshop Leader, Workshop Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Management qualifications or demonstrated management experience.
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in a workshop environment, with heavy vehicle experience preferred.
- Understanding of vehicle management systems, standard operating procedures, process mapping, KPIs, and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and managing day-to-day operations across the relevant work teams.
- Driving process improvements and identifying efficiencies to ensure operational KPIs are achieved.
- Promoting and role modelling safe work practices, while ensuring WHS procedures are applied consistently.
- Supporting Team Leaders to manage employee performance, behaviour, training, and development.
- Working with Team Leaders to manage recruitment, selection, induction, and skills assessment processes for workshop-related roles.
- Managing labour allocation, overtime, workflow, scheduling, and product processing to support productivity and profitability.
- Overseeing inbound and outbound product inspections and ensuring all required documentation is accurate and complete.
- Applying lean management principles to support efficient and productive workflow through the workshop
- Liaising with customer service teams and Account Managers in relation to customer product requirements, where required.
- Monitoring systems, information, data, invoices, and operational costs to support business improvement and budget outcomes
- Building strong working relationships across departments to ensure customer and schedule expectations are met.
- Promoting teamwork, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a positive workplace culture.
