The Role The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

The Program Risk Officer is responsible for delivering structured, evidence-based risk management across the Engineering and Technology Division.

The position will engage with their peers across the ASA to deliver Program Management Services and provide Program Management input in support of the development and operation of the Technical Capability delivered by Engineering And Technology Division. Externally where required the position may need to engage with Defence (RAN, CASG, DSTG, NSSG), and International partners and their government agencies.

Working under broad direction from the Divisional Controller, the role will:

- Develop and maintain risk management documentation, including risk registers, treatment plans and reporting, to support governance, decision-making and Defence objectives.
- Monitor risk profiles and treatment effectiveness, identifying emerging risks, tracking mitigation activities and escalating issues as required.
- Provide practical risk management advice to project and program stakeholders to support planning, delivery and assurance activities.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of risk management frameworks, ensuring alignment with Defence policy, legislative requirements and organisational priorities.
- Facilitate risk workshops, reviews and assurance activities to strengthen risk awareness and capability across the Division.
- Build effective stakeholder relationships to embed risk management practices and support the proactive identification and management of risks and issues.





About our Team The Engineering & Technology Program Engineering Branch / Project Management Office integrates and coordinates the Technical Capability Program planning, scope, schedule, cost, risk and performance, governance and reporting and provides support and assurance to branch procurement, contracting and projects. The Project Management Office is structured in teams focused on - Program Planning and Integration, Program Controls, Budget Performance, and Procurement & Contracts
