We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer / Estimating Assistant to support both project delivery and estimating functions across a diverse portfolio of civil construction projects. The role will assist in tender preparation, cost estimating, project planning, procurement, contract administration, project controls, and site coordination.
The successful candidate will work across a broad range of civil infrastructure projects including earthworks, civil works, piling, concrete structures, roadworks, railworks, public domain works, structural works, DRFA projects, riverbank restoration and stabilisation, subdivisions, utilities, and retaining wall construction.
This role requires occasional travel to project sites across Queensland and Recent South Wales to support project delivery, tendering activities, site inspections, client meetings, quantity verification, and construction coordination.
This position offers excellent exposure across the full project lifecycle, from tendering and pre-construction through to project delivery and completion.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Tender Support
· Assist in the preparation of tenders, quotations, and cost estimates.
· Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and tender documentation.
· Complete quantity take-offs and measurements from plans and specifications.
· Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
· Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation.
· Maintain estimating databases and historical cost records.
· Assist with value engineering and cost-saving initiatives.
· Support post-tender reviews and contract award processes.
Project Engineering & Delivery
· Assist Project Manager with project planning, scheduling, and delivery.
· Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and site personnel.
· Monitor project progress against program, budget, and client requirements.
· Assist with procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services.
· Prepare and maintain project documentation, registers, and reporting systems.
· Support project teams with RFIs, variations, progress claims, and contractual correspondence.
· Track project costs and assist with forecasting and budget management.
· Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and action registers.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
· Assist in implementing project quality management systems.
· Ensure compliance with project specifications, standards, and contractual requirements.
· Support site safety initiatives and compliance with WHS legislation.
· Assist in preparing project documentation including SWMS, ITPs, inspections, and handover documentation.
Stakeholder Management
· Liaise professionally with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and authorities.
· Develop and maintain positive working relationships with project stakeholders.
· Provide timely project updates and reporting to management.
Site Support
· Conduct site inspections and project reviews as required.
· Verify construction progress and quantities completed.
· Assist with site-based problem solving and coordination activities.
· Undertake occasional travel to project sites to support tendering, pre-construction activities, project delivery, and client engagement.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
· Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
· 2+ years experience in civil construction, project engineering, estimating, contract administration, or project coordination.
· Exposure to civil infrastructure and construction projects.
· Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
Technical Skills
· Strong understanding of civil construction methods and practices.
· Ability to perform quantity take-offs and basic cost estimating.
· Understanding of project management principles.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
· Ability to read and interpret civil and structural plans.
· Strong report writing and document control skills.
