Aeon Metals | Walford Creek Project, Far Northwest Queensland
Project Geologist positions | Immediate start | Remote field-based role
Aeon Metals is seeking Project Geologists (2) based either in Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns to join our exploration team at the Walford Creek project, our flagship base metals project in far northwest Queensland.
With a major diamond drilling program scheduled to commence in the first week of September, we are looking for motivated and capable geologists who can join the team at short notice and play a key role in the successful delivery of the upcoming drilling campaign.
Walford Creek is an exciting and highly prospective copper-lead-zinc-cobalt-silver project, hosting stratiform-style mineralisation associated with a major crustal-scale fault system. The project provides an excellent opportunity to work directly with a complex base metals system and gain hands-on experience across all stages of an active exploration drilling program.
About the Role
Working as part of the exploration team, you will be involved in the day-to-day management and execution of the diamond drilling program, including:
- Geological logging and interpretation of diamond drill core
- Geotechnical and Metallurgical Core sampling and QA/QC
- Geological and structural interpretation
- Managing drill hole progress and liaising with drilling contractors
- Ensuring accurate and timely collection of geological data
- Supporting field mapping, sampling and other exploration activities as required
- Maintaining high standards of geological data quality and database integrity
- Contributing to the interpretation and ongoing evaluation of the Walford Creek mineral system
- Working closely with the Exploration Manager and broader geological team to deliver the drilling program safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on field geology role, well suited to a geologist who enjoys being close to the core, drilling and day-to-day exploration activities.
About You
You will ideally have
- A tertiary qualification in Geology or a related discipline
- Previous experience in mineral exploration, preferably within base metals
- Experience logging diamond drill core
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality geological data
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small exploration team
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Solid commitment to safety and working responsibly in a remote field environment
- A current Australian unrestricted driver's licence
Previous experience with copper, lead, zinc, cobalt, silver or stratiform style base metal mineralisation will be highly regarded.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to join the active exploration program at an exciting base metals project
- Immediate involvement in a major diamond drilling campaign
- Hands-on exposure to core logging, sampling, structural geology and mineralisation interpretation
- Remote field camp accommodation with private rooms
- The opportunity to work as part of a focused and experienced exploration team
- Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience
