Safety & Injury Management Consultant

Associate, People Risk

About Howden

We are part of the Howden Broking Group, the world's largest privately owned insurance broker, headquartered in London. Since launching Howden in the Pacific region in March 2021, we have grown from a team of three to over 600 employees across Australia, Current Zealand and Fiji.

Our mantra is to be People First. We believe you can teach someone new skills, but not how to be a different person. We offer a chance to join a rapidly growing business at an exciting time, with a genuinely collegiate culture and highly engaged team.

The opportunity

Are you an allied health professional who has spent the last few years helping people recover from injury, and found yourself increasingly interested in stopping those injuries happening in the first place?

We're looking for a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, exercise physiologist or similarly qualified allied health professional to join our People Risk – Safety & Prevention team as a Safety & Injury Management Consultant, based in Sydney.

This role is deliberately designed as a bridge. You'll bring your clinical reasoning, functional assessment skills and understanding of injury mechanisms into a consulting environment, where you'll design and deliver contemporary early intervention and manual handling prevention programs for clients across transport and logistics, aged care, disability services, construction, waste management and beyond. In return, you'll be exposed to the full breadth of safety management consulting, building capability well beyond injury management.

It's a role with real breadth: no two clients (or weeks) look the same, and you'll be supported to grow your capability and take on more responsibility as you develop.

Where you'll start

- Design, deliver and run early intervention injury management programs, working with clients to get the right support to workers at the right time.
- Conduct manual handling and functional task risk assessments, applying biomechanical principles to real workplaces and translating findings into practical control measures.
- Develop and facilitate manual handling and injury prevention training for frontline teams, supervisors and leaders.

- Support clients with injury management advisory, working alongside our Howden Care team on return-to-work strategy, claims outcomes and prevention insights.
- Turn injury and claims data into insight that shapes where clients invest their prevention effort.

Where you'll grow

With mentoring from senior colleagues, you'll build capability across our wider advisory offer, including:

- WHS/OHS audit, compliance and gap analysis engagements.
- Physical and psychosocial risk management, including ISO 45003 and current regulator expectations.
- Safety management system design and implementation against ISO 45001.
- Safety leadership, officer due diligence and culture maturity programs.
- Digital and technology transformation, helping clients select and implement safety platforms.
- Contributing to the tools, methodologies and IP that shape our advisory offer.

How the role develops

During your first six to twelve months you'll focus on getting to know your clients and our methodologies, leading delivery in the injury prevention and manual handling space where your existing skills are immediately valuable, while working alongside senior colleagues on broader safety engagements. Over time, we'd expect you to be independently running your own programs, building trusted client relationships, and contributing to new work.

From there, the pathway to Senior Associate and beyond is clear for those who want it, with genuine mentoring, support and the opportunity to grow within a growing national practice.

About you To help Australia's leading organisations prevent harm and build safer, healthier, more resilient workplaces, as part of one of the fastest-growing broking groups in the Pacific you'll need the below experience and skill set:

- A tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology or similar),

with current registration or accreditation where applicable.
- 3+ years' experience in a rehabilitation provider, occupational rehabilitation, workplace health or comparable setting.
- Practical exposure to injury management and return-to-work practice across one or more Australian workers compensation schemes.
- A working understanding of biomechanics, ergonomics and manual handling risk, and an interest in applying it at a program level rather than case by case.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and adapt your style from the boardroom to the shop floor.
- Confidence facilitating training, toolbox sessions or education with frontline workers and leaders.
- An interest in moving into client-facing consulting, and the organisation to manage several projects and clients at once.
- Comfort working with data to turn information into insight (including Excel).
- A genuine passion for creating new programs of work that make a genuine difference in our clients' workplaces.
- A current driver's licence and willingness to travel intra/interstate and occasionally overnight.

Remuneration and benefits In addition to competitive remuneration, we offer free salary continuance insurance, access to Novated Leasing and our industry-leading bonus leave benefit, where employees can qualify for up to two weeks' additional paid leave each year.
