Sales & Tourism Manager – Hospitality & Events

We are looking for a confident, energetic and commercially minded person to join our group of Hobart hospitality, tourism, accommodation and events businesses.

This role is available full time, but for the right candidate we are also open to a flexible or part-time arrangement.

This is a sales role first and foremost.

We are not looking for someone who can simply talk the talk, network well and have lots of meetings.

We are looking for someone who can turn opportunities into bookings, bookings into revenue and genuinely grow the dollars across the group.

That is the job.

We have built these businesses over many years, often on the smell of an oily rag!! We have achieved a lot, but we now need an injection of fresh blood, energy and commercial thinking to help us grow the next stage.

There is plenty of opportunity sitting across the businesses. We need someone who can see it, chase it and convert it.

The role will include

- Bringing more corporate, conference, group and event business into our hospitality and event businesses

- Building relationships and partnerships that actually generate revenue

- Helping launch new tourism and hospitality products into the market

- Creating packages and opportunities across accommodation, hospitality, tourism and events

- Growing group and corporate business across our accommodation portfolio

- Helping bring new accommodation and tourism offerings to market

- Identifying and developing new tourism and hospitality opportunities

- Creating and developing our own annual events program, including one or two strong signature events each year

- Following leads right through from the first conversation to the signed booking and the dollars coming through the door

What you must bring

This role needs someone who understands hospitality, not just sales.

You will need a strong working knowledge of hospitality, tourism, accommodation or events and understand how these businesses operate commercially.

You must also be able to:

- Create attractive packages and experiences that people actually want to buy

- Understand costing, pricing and margins

- Build packages that are commercially viable, not just good ideas

- Work with accommodation, food, beverage, events and experiences to create new revenue opportunities

- Understand how to price for corporate groups, tourism, events and special packages

- Look at an opportunity and work out whether it will actually make money

- Turn ideas into clear offers that can be taken to market and sold

- Develop event concepts that can become part of a strong annual program and generate both revenue and repeat business

Costing and pricing knowledge is essential.

We need someone who understands that growing revenue is only valuable if the business being created is profitable.

Who we are looking for

You may come from tourism, hospitality, accommodation, events or sales.

But your background matters less to us than your ability to produce results.

We want someone who is commercially sharp,

follows things through and is comfortable being measured on new sales, bookings and revenue growth.

You must have fluent spoken and written English and be confident dealing directly with corporate clients, tourism partners, suppliers and customers.

You must also be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with unrestricted rights to live and work in Australia.

If you're local and already have strong Hobart or Tasmanian contacts across tourism, hospitality, corporate, accommodation or events, that will certainly earn you a few brownie points.

But contacts alone are not enough.

We are looking for someone who can build relationships, ask for the business, close the deal and then go looking for the next opportunity.

Full-time or flexible

Full-time is absolutely on offer, and for someone wanting to really get involved across the group there is plenty to do.

However, for the right candidate, we are also very open to discussing a three- or four-day week or another flexible arrangement.

We are much more interested in finding the right person than insisting on a traditional Monday-to-Friday structure.

What matters to us is what you achieve.

If you are someone who likes to make things happen and can point to real business you have generated in previous roles, we would love to hear from you.

Please tell us what you have sold, what business you have grown, what sort of results you have delivered and whether you are looking for full-time or a more flexible arrangement.

Please only apply if you genuinely meet the criteria above. We are looking for proven hospitality/tourism knowledge, strong commercial ability, fluent English and Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
