JOY Media is Australia’s LGBTIQA community media organisation, listed on the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission Register, dedicated to fostering a more inclusive society.
Our mission is to amplify diverse voices, reduce isolation and celebrate the rich culture and achievements of the rainbow community. We engage audiences through JOY 94.9 Radio (on FM, DAB and the JOY App), as well as our online livestreams and podcasts, accessible 24/7 at joy.org.au.
Our sustainability relies on income-generating services such as advertising and live broadcasting, along with grants, donations, memberships and philanthropic support. Based in St Kilda, our small team of paid staff and dedicated volunteers collaborate to deliver engaging news, information, music and entertainment to our rainbow community and allies.

Role Overview The Scheduling Coordinator is a vital, technical volunteer role within JOY’s Music team. Working under the guidance of the Head of Music, you will serve as the station’s MusicMaster lead, ensuring the seamless generation and maintenance of daytime music logs and databases. In this role, you will bridge the gap between music curation and broadcast technology by keeping the MusicMaster database updated, troubleshooting issues for presenters and extracting key statistical data to help amplify diverse LGBTIQA voices.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the MusicMaster lead, including (but not limited to) being the main point of contact for MusicMaster, communicating information about release notes and software updates, upskilling staff where required, engaging with MusicMaster training.
- Schedule daytime music on a regular basis (in conjunction with Head of Music).
- Update information in the MusicMaster database, including (but not limited to) artist liner notes, song information (such as chart position, certifications), performances by local and touring artists, highlighting queer artists and community supporters.
- Provide monthly statistical reports to the Content Manager, along with other reports as required.
- Communicate with the programming team about available features of MusicMaster within WideOrbit (in conjunction with Head of Music).
- Support presenters and staff in solving problems related to MusicMaster and WideOrbit.
- Refer complaints / issues to Head of Music or CEO.
- Attend to correspondence; sundry office & administration tasks; filing; and ad-hoc tasks allocated by Head of Music.
- Assist with arrangements for station promotions, special and ad-hoc events.
- Attend to other duties as required by the Head of Music.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated broad general knowledge of the music industry and/or interest in music
- Demonstrated ability to think logically and good problem solving skills
- Excellent computer skills and ability to use Google Workspace tools
- Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to learn MusicMaster or similar scheduling software (desirable)
- Very good organisational skills
- Very good interpersonal skills - a team player
- Excellent, clear and concise written communication skills
- Good understanding of radio, program formats, Broadcasting Act and CBAA Codes of Practice
