Arethusa College is an independent, co-educational school catering for students requiring an alternative to mainstream schooling. We are accredited as a Special Assistance School with campuses located across SE Queensland.

We believe in providing an alternate approach to education for students where previous schooling in a mainstream setting has not been successful due to social, emotional, physical, educational, family or situational difficulties. The College provides education which is innovative and meets the needs of each student, some of whom have learning difficulties and disabilities.

The Role

Arethusa College currently operates security across ten campuses with an internal guard force, contracted security guards, and contracted patrols. The role is a split between the Business Hub (Head Office) in Caboolture, QLD, and the campuses. You will spend a portion of each month on site, mapping camera coverage, collecting returned credentials, meeting contractors, inspecting systems firsthand and meeting with campus staff as required.

You will be based centrally, reporting directly to the Head of Security.

This current role requires administration skills and the ability to use computers and software. This role also requires a high degree of written and verbal communication and organisational skills. Central to this role is the tracking and maintenance of internal security systems, such as access control, CCTV and more.



The ideal candidate will be computer literate and embrace technology as part of how we operate.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

- Visit campuses on a scheduled or as-required basis to complete field tasks, system checks and site documentation.
- Produce and maintain physical CCTV camera placement mapping for each campus, recording camera position, field of view, coverage gaps, and device condition.
- Report faults, blind spots, and coverage deficiencies to the Head of Security for remediation planning.
- Meet and escort contractors on site, when necessary, verify works against approved scope, and report completion or defects.
- Collect returned keys and swipe cards during site visits and process returns promptly
- Represent the security department during campus visits, working alongside campus leadership and staff
- Conduct training for new guards (set training) as required by the Head of Security.

Suitability

- Demonstrated experience as a security guard or equivalent, with a track record of being trusted beyond the basic role. Examples include acting as a site lead, holding responsibility for a location, training, or inducting others, or being the point of contact.
- Practical experience operating CCTV systems, including retrieval and review of footage.
- Experience with access control systems, credential issue and record keeping.
- Evidence of accuracy and follow-through in record keeping or reporting.
- Capacity to work effectively in a special assistance school environment with students who present with complex behavioural and trauma backgrounds.
- A response posture built on reading the situation, protecting the vulnerable,



using the minimum force required, and restoring the relationship afterwards.

- Note: This role is administratively focused and is not a traditional security role. You are required to have a high level of:

Key Selection Criteria:

- Sound written communication, particularly in incident documentation and formal correspondence.
- Competence with Microsoft 365 and web-based management portals.
- Capacity to work autonomously across multiple sites without direct supervision, and to manage competing priorities without prompting.
- Sound judgement about what to decide and what to escalate.
- Discretion in handling sensitive information regarding students, staff, and incidents. Confidentiality is critical.
- Ability to learn the role and the company policies and procedures and operate within them.

Required Credentials

- Current Queensland Class 1 Security Provider Licence (Security Officer).
- Current Working with Children Check (paid Blue Card), or eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement.
- Current Queensland driver licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Desirable

- Qualifications and/or experience in administration, organisation, task management, and department logistics highly regarded.
- Prior experience in an education, healthcare, disability, or youth services setting.
- Formal training in de-escalation, behaviours of concern or occupational violence prevention.
- Experience with access control platforms.
- Experience preparing documentation.
- Experience working with CCTV software and hardware.
