Senior Data Analyst - Economics

Join the Office of the 24 Hour Economy Commissioner, a division of the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport

Clerk Grade 9/10 with a salary range of $133,348 - $146,945 per annum plus superannuation

Ongoing role based in Sydney CBD

About the role This role offers the opportunity to combine data analysis, project coordination and stakeholder engagement to support the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner. Working as part of a high-performing team of economists and data analytics specialists, you will analyse a range of data sources, including consumer spending, people movement, public transport usage and night-time safety measures, to produce meaningful insights that inform strategy, policy and decision-making. You will take ownership of the well-regarded Data After Dark Quarterly Insights report, undertake bespoke analysis and research projects, and prepare reports, briefs and advice for senior leaders, including the Commissioner, Secretary and Minister.

Alongside analytical work, you will play an important role in supporting projects and building capability across the organisation. You will develop and deliver engaging training for new and existing dashboard users, both in person and online, using feedback to continuously improve training resources and delivery. You'll also coordinate projects, manage project documentation and reporting, and work closely with stakeholders across NSW Government agencies, local councils and other partners to provide data expertise, support informed decision-making and contribute to the ongoing success of the award-winning Data After Dark program.

About You

You're an experienced data analytics and project professional who can combine strong analytical capability with effective program and project delivery in a large, complex organisation. You have well-developed quantitative and data analysis skills and can confidently interpret complex information, identify trends and produce clear, accurate insights to support decision-making.



You have an understanding of economics and are able to translate technical findings into practical reports, presentations and advice that can be understood by a range of audiences.

Experience using tools such as Excel and Power BI is essential, while knowledge of R, Stata or Python would be an advantage. You build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and are confident consulting, negotiating and communicating with people who have different priorities and perspectives. You can manage multiple interconnected projects at the same time, balancing competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
