Senior Data Engineer / Data Leader | Azure & MS Fabric

I am partnering with a premier, boutique data and AI consulting firm to find a Senior Data Engineer / Data Leader. They have just secured a massive current enterprise infrastructure project and need a technical powerhouse to lead the delivery from the front.

This business is highly regarded for its specialist offerings in Microsoft Fabric and AI. You will be stepping into a pivotal leadership role, sitting just below the Head of Data & AI, and directly mentoring a talented team of junior and mid-level engineers.

You cannot just be a hands-off manager. We need a leader who loves writing code, solving complex data problems, and leading by example.

What your leadership role will entail

- Team Leadership & Mentoring: Running Agile/Scrum ceremonies, fostering a high-performance culture, and upskilling a team of engineers.
- Consulting & Strategic Delivery: Engaging directly with enterprise clients, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes, and diplomatically managing stakeholder relationships.




- Architecture & Engineering: Getting hands-on to build out Metadata Driven Architectures (MDA) where system behaviour, data ingestion, and governance are controlled by metadata rather than hard-coded logic.
- Business Development: Wearing a commercial hat to help spot opportunities and assist with business development during quieter project phases.

The Tech Stack you will champion

- Must-haves: Exceptional senior-level skills across Microsoft Azure, Synapse Analytics, Terraform, Python (pandas, numpy, pyspark), and SQL. You must be comfortable with APIs and IP code.
- Highly Desirable: Microsoft Fabric (this is a massive bonus!), Dataverse, Power Platform (backend), Databricks, and Generative AI / Copilot integrations.

Who we are looking for

- A proven Senior or Lead Data Engineer with 5 years of pure data engineering experience and strong dimensional modelling skills.
- A polished consultant and natural leader who is comfortable travelling to client sites when required.
- Someone with full Australian working rights (Australian Citizens are highly preferred, and candidates with Defence clearances will be highly regarded).
