Kimberley Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (KMS) is a 50/50 joint venture between Sheffield Resources Limited and YGH Australia Investment Pty Ltd (Yansteel).

The Thunderbird Mineral Sands

Operation (Thunderbird) is located mid-way between Derby and Broome, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Thunderbird is one of the largest and highest-grade zircon mineral sands deposits in the world and contains valuable heavy minerals including ilmenite, zircon and leucoxene, which are extracted and exported via the Port of Broome.

About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Health, Safety, Environment and Training, the Senior Health and Safety Advisor ensures safety is embedded as a core priority across all aspects of operations by driving proactive engagement, leading in-field interactions, and verifying the effectiveness of controls. Additionally, the position provides oversight and continuous improvement of internal investigation processes, ensuring lessons learned are applied to prevent recurrence and enhance operational safety performance. Location & Roster Options

We have a preference for the preferred candidate to reside in the West Kimberley region, with relocation and living allowances provided. However, for the right candidate, FIFO from Perth will be considered.

West Kimberley Resident Roster:8 days on, 6 off (Bus in, Bus out from Broome)

Perth Resident Roster:8 days on 6 off from Perth (Fly in, Fly out)

Key Responsibilities





- WHS Governance: Drive and maintain the WHS Management System to achieve zero harm and ensure compliance with WA legislation and business objectives.
- Compliance & Expertise: Maintain expert knowledge of WA WHS laws, codes, and guidelines; act as primary liaison with DMIRS and regulators.
- Risk & Safety Leadership: Oversee risk assessments, maintain risk registers, and lead audits, inspections, and investigations with root cause analysis.
- Training & Mentorship: Deliver induction and competency-based WHS training programs; mentor teams on incident reporting systems and processes.
- Data & Technology: Champion WHS technology systems and analytics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Contractor & Process Safety: Enforce contractor compliance programs and collaborate with operational leaders to uphold process safety standards.
- Health & Wellbeing: Oversee health and hygiene planning for Thunderbird Operations and foster a psychologically safe workplace culture.
- Communication & Reporting: Prepare high-quality documentation, reports, and presentations; proactively communicate WHS issues and progress.

About You

- Cert IV in Work Health & Safety or equivalent.
- Cert IV in Training & Assessment
- Current WA C-Class Driver’s Licence.




- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar WHS leadership role within the resources sector.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management, contractor management and safety systems.
- Experience across incident investigation, auditing, change management and operational readiness.
- Understanding of occupational health, injury management and high-risk work requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across operational teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience with WHS management systems and reporting platforms such as INX is desirable.
