About Sonya Moda

SONYA MODA is a Sydney-based premium womenswear brand creating elevated occasionwear for life's most memorable moments.

As the business continues to grow across DTC and international wholesale, we are looking for an experienced Senior Merchandise Planner / Inventory Consultant to join us on an initial three-month contract.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role with an immediate mandate to optimise our current inventory position, improve stock productivity and build the merchandise planning framework required to support our next stage of growth.

The Role

Working directly with the Founder, you will take ownership of a comprehensive review of our existing inventory and develop a transparent, commercially driven inventory reduction and cash-recovery strategy.

Your immediate focus will be determining:

- What inventory we should retain and protect at full price
- What inventory should be actively sold down
- What should be marked down and when
- What should be exited through warehouse sales, promotional activity, off-price or bulk clearance channels
- Appropriate markdown and exit pricing
- How much inventory the business should realistically carry going forward

Beyond the immediate inventory project, you will establish the merchandise planning discipline required to ensure future buying and production decisions are driven by demand, sales forecasts and appropriate stock cover. This is not simply a reporting role . We are looking for someone who can analyse the numbers, identify the commercial priorities and recommend clear actions.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct a detailed SKU-level review of current inventory, including stock age, sales velocity,

sell-through, margin and weeks of cover
- Identify aged, slow-moving and excess inventory and develop explicit exit strategies
- Build and manage merchandise plans, WSSI and Open-to-Buy frameworks
- Establish appropriate weeks-of-cover and inventory targets
- Develop markdown strategies and recommended exit timelines
- Forecast DTC inventory requirements at category and SKU level
- Review wholesale demand alongside DTC forecasts to support production decisions
- Assess factory MOQs against forecast demand and inventory exposure
- Recommend initial buys, replenishment and future production quantities
- Develop seasonal and monthly sales, stock and intake plans
- Build a structured inventory strategy for key promotional periods, including Black Friday/Cyber Monday
- Partner with ecommerce and marketing to identify priority products and stock for campaigns
- Establish weekly merchandise trading and inventory reporting
- Track inventory reduction, sell-through and cash recovery against agreed targets
- Provide clear commercial recommendations directly to the Founder

About You You are an experienced fashion merchandise planner who combines strong analytical capability with commercial instinct.

You will ideally have

- 7+ years' merchandise planning experience within fashion/apparel retail
- Experience at Senior Merchandise Planner, Planning Manager or equivalent level

- Strong experience with WSSI, Open-to-Buy, weeks of cover, stock turn, sell-through and inventory ageing
- Proven experience managing aged and excess inventory and developing markdown strategies
- Strong demand forecasting and range planning experience
- Experience planning for DTC/ecommerce
- Experience working across both DTC and wholesale environments is highly regarded
- Advanced Excel and merchandise planning skills
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- The confidence to challenge buying and production decisions where required
- The ability to work autonomously and turn data into clear commercial actions

Experience within premium womenswear, occasionwear or a multi-channel fashion brand would be highly regarded.

What Success Looks Like

During the initial engagement, you will help SONYA MODA establish:
- A clear strategy for current, aged and excess inventory
- Meaningfully reduced stock cover and improved inventory productivity
- A structured markdown and inventory exit framework
- Improved cash conversion from inventory
- A functioning Open-to-Buy and WSSI process
- Clear DTC buying and production parameters
- A forward merchandise plan aligned with sales targets
- A weekly merchandise trading and inventory management process
