Senior Systems Engineer – Communications

- 24-month contract / $1300 day inc Super
- Brisbane Airport + WFH
- Current NV1 Security Clearance preferred

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer – Communications (Senior Engineering Specialist) to join and support the Aerodrome Platform portfolio of critical communications systems.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on operational aviation technology that provides essential communication, control and monitoring services to Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting teams.

You will provide senior systems engineering expertise across the full lifecycle of complex telecommunications and operational systems—from requirements, design and integration through to verification, validation, sustainment and continuous improvement.

The Role

As Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical implementation, sustainment, performance and enhancement of operational airways communications systems, ensuring they meet technical, safety, security and performance requirements.

You will:

- Perform systems engineering, design, implementation, performance monitoring, analysis and technical support across the system lifecycle.
- Apply systems engineering and technical oversight from requirements definition through design, integration, verification, validation and operational support.
- Design and develop technical specifications and standards aligned with customer and operational requirements.
- Lead complex investigations, analysis and diagnosis of system issues and implement effective technical solutions.
- Prepare test plans and test cases and participate in system testing for new implementations, enhancements and software updates.
- Monitor system performance, identify trends and recommend improvements to reliability and maintainability.
- Develop and review engineering documentation,



including system requirements specifications, Statements of Requirements, project proposals, cost estimates, System Engineering Management Plans and Test & Evaluation Master Plans.
- Manage system configuration across hardware, software, firmware and technical documentation.
- Lead technology change, configuration management and change-control activities to maintain technical integrity.
- Identify, manage and track technical and program risks.
- Provide specialist technical advice and leadership to projects and stakeholders, including safety and security guidance.
- Maintain engineering and technical documentation and support software assurance activities.
- Identify and manage safety hazards associated with supported systems.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, industry standards and regulatory developments.

What You'll Bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in a relevant engineering discipline, such as RPEQ.
- Australian Government NV1 Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
- Strong demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices across system design, verification, validation and lifecycle management.
- Extensive experience designing, developing, testing and implementing robust and reliable telecommunications systems.




- Strong understanding of quality assurance and configuration management within complex technical environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing stakeholders, suppliers and technology vendors.
- The ability to take ownership of technical outcomes and work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic engineering team.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including experience preparing and reviewing solution architecture and system design documentation.
- The ability to align technical solutions with broader technology strategies, programs and existing initiatives.

Desirable Experience

Experience across one or more of the following will be highly regarded:

- N-tier architectures and distributed systems.
- Real-time systems.
- Message-handling systems.
- Operational aviation or other safety-critical technology environments.
- Complex telecommunications and communications platforms.
- Systems integration, installation, deployment and transition.

This role aligns to senior-level SFIA capabilities across:

- System Design (DESN) – Level 5
- System Development Management – Level 5
- Safety Engineering (SFEN) – Level 3
- Testing (TEST) – Level 4
- Systems Integration (SINT) – Level 6
- Systems Installation/Decommissioning (HSIN) – Level 5
- Change Management (CHMG) – Level 5
- Release & Deployment (RELM) – Level 5
