About the role
Frontline Mine Design is seeking a highly capable Senior Underground Planning Engineer to deliver long-term mine planning for underground operations across Western Australia. This is a hands-on senior role for an engineer who can independently own life-of-mine designs and schedules, budgets and longer-term planning deliverables. You will be trusted to step into a client operation, understand its constraints quickly and produce practical, technically robust plans without day-to-day technical supervision.
Benefits
- $335,000 annualised casual hourly rate, inclusive of casual loading, with superannuation paid in addition
- $5,000 bonus payable on successful completion of your first Frontline client assignment
- FIFO travel from Perth, with approved flights, accommodation and meals provided while on assignment
- High-value technical work across a range of Western Australian underground operations
- Genuine autonomy and direct access to decision-makers in a specialist, engineer-led consultancy
Key responsibilities
- Independently develop and maintain life-of-mine designs and production schedules
- Deliver annual budgets, forecasts, two-year plans, five-year plans and other long-term planning outputs required by the client
- Complete stope optimisation, cut-off grade analysis, mining-method assessments and planning scenario evaluations
- Produce underground development, production, access and infrastructure designs
- Develop practical development and stoping sequences that reflect operational constraints and production priorities
- Prepare schedule assumptions, physicals, cost inputs and value trade-offs for planning decisions and business cases
- Identify and communicate plan risks, constraints, dependencies, bottlenecks and opportunities
- Integrate geology, geotechnical, ventilation, fill, survey, infrastructure,
approvals and operational requirements into mine plans
- Work closely with site technical services, operations, finance and management teams to ensure plans are technically sound and operationally executable
- Clearly communicate mine plans, assumptions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
About you
- Advanced capability in Deswik.CAD and Deswik.Sched
- Demonstrated ability to deliver underground life-of-mine designs and schedules unassisted
- Demonstrated ability to own budget, forecast and longer-term mine-planning deliverables
- Substantial underground hard-rock planning experience and the judgement required to produce practical plans for an operating mine
- Strong working knowledge of underground mining methods, development and production sequencing, mine infrastructure and operational constraints
- The ability to assess alternatives, quantify risks and trade-offs, and turn technical analysis into clear recommendations
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to work directly with client technical and operational stakeholders
- A reliable, self-managed approach and a track record of delivering accurate work to deadline
- Current Australian working rights
- A current, valid driver's licence
