Field Placement Coordinator: Bachelor of Human & Community Services / Lecturer (Adelaide Campus)

The Field Placement Coordinator/Lecturer is responsible for sourcing, coordinating, and overseeing field placements for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Human and Community Services. The role ensures that all placements meet academic requirements, industry and Community Work Australia accreditation standards, and professional expectations.

This position requires highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, robust networks within the community services sector, and recent industry experience. The Field Placement Coordinator / Lecturer works collaboratively with academic staff to support students’ learning and professional development through well-structured and supervised placement experiences.

The Field Placement Coordinator/Lecturer contributes to the design, development, and delivery of curriculum materials related to professional practice, field education and other elements of the undergraduate course. The position reports to, and works under the guidance of, the Head of Discipline/Course Coordinator- Adelaide.

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

a) Industry partner development

(i) Develop and maintain networks within the community services sector for the purpose of sourcing field placements

(ii)



Negotiate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with partners

(iii) Build relationships with agencies which will commit to offering quality field placements to IBC’s students

(iv) Develop and maintain a database of industry contacts and student placements

b) Field Placement Coordination

(i) Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of agency premises, maintain accurate records of risk assessments and ensure actions are taken to mitigate identified risks

(ii) Identify and arrange placements as required

(iii) Oversee field placements, working with agencies and students to maximise opportunities for successful placements

(iv) Engage other lecturers in supporting field placements

(v) Assess the effectiveness of placements and make improvements based on feedback

(vi) Ensure placement activities comply with Community Work Australia accreditation and higher education standards and regulations.

c) Course development, delivery and review

(i) Develop and deliver specific units of the Bachelor of Human and Community Services, including Field Placement units

(ii) Contribute to the continuous improvement of curriculum and student learning outcomes

(iii) Participate in regular cycles of evaluation of coursework and teaching

(iv) Provide feedback and support for peers as requested

(v) Participate in regular cycles of evaluation of coursework and teaching

d) Professional development and scholarly activity

(i) Engage in practice which demonstrates currency and relevance in understanding theory and practice related to the field placements

(ii) Engage in scholarship and scholarly activity

(iii) Record and integrate scholarly advances into learning and teaching practices

(iv) Participate in and contribute to professional academic development

e) Learning and teaching

(i) Assess and grade student assessment tasks in a moderated environment

(ii) Provide students with opportunities for consultation.

Maintain accurate and secure records of student attendance, assignment submission and grades for each unit

(iv) Manage and populate as needed the Learning Management System unit website, including duties such as preparing site content and interacting with students for the seamless operation of course units

(v) Contribute to the administration of IBC's courses as required

(vi) Be alert and responsive to issues related to student wellbeing and safety and ensure appropriate referral pathways are implemented

(vii) Deliver high quality learning opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds.

(viii) Other duties as required by the Head of Discipline/Course Coordinator

Required qualifications and experience

· Strong links to the human and community services sector. Eligibility for membership of a professional association, such as Community Work Australia or the Australian Association of Social Workers

· Postgraduate qualification in human and community services, or closely related discipline or relevant professional skills.

· An established background of three years or more, post-qualification, in the human and community services sector.

Desired qualifications and experience:

· Demonstrated experience in the delivery of a course in human and community services in a higher education setting

· Demonstrated experience in unit co-ordination and assessment.

· An established background of two years or more in leading, designing, developing, and managing learning and teaching units in human and community services.

· Knowledge of contemporary learning, teaching and assessment principles relevant to the human and community services discipline and experience in implementing these principles

· Proficient in the use of digital tools and technology platforms for data management, communication and reporting

· Active in scholarship that informs teaching and relevant professional development as reflected in publications, conference presentations, and research
