About the role

Safety Barriers WA is seeking an experienced Company Accountant to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting, financial reporting and payroll functions.

This is a hands-on position with responsibility for producing accurate and timely financial information, maintaining effective controls and ensuring key taxation, payroll and statutory obligations are met. You will work closely with management, providing transparent financial insights to support planning and commercial decision-making.

The position suits a capable accountant who is comfortable managing detailed transactional work while also contributing at a broader reporting and advisory level.

Key responsibilities

Finance and reporting

- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, reconciliations and adjusting entries.

- Prepare monthly profit and loss, balance-sheet and cash-flow reports.

- Provide management commentary on financial performance, key risks, variances and recommended corrective actions.

- Manage banking, reconciliations and the general ledger.

- Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company requirements.

- Coordinate BAS, IAS, FBT and income-tax information, payroll tax, workers’ compensation declarations and insurance renewals.

- Liaise with external accountants, auditors and other skilled advisers, providing supporting information and documentation as required.

- Maintain documented financial controls, delegated approval limits and accounting procedures.

- Identify and implement opportunities to improve reporting, internal processes, cost control and operational efficiency.

Payroll and employment compliance

- Process or oversee accurate and timely end-to-end payroll.

- Review and validate timesheets, ordinary hours, overtime, allowances, casual loading, leave and public-holiday payments.





- Maintain accurate Award classifications, pay rates and employee payroll records.

- Complete Single Touch Payroll reporting, superannuation, payroll-tax and year-end payroll processes.

- Reconcile payroll against approved timesheets, general-ledger entries and bank payments.

- Coordinate construction-industry portable long-service-leave reporting.

- Support compliance with applicable Awards, employment obligations and internal payroll procedures.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:

- A recognised accounting qualification, such as CA, CPA, a degree or diploma in accounting, or an equivalent qualification.

- At least three to five years’ relevant experience in financial accounting, management reporting or a similar company-accounting role.

- Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.

- Practical experience with payroll processing and employment-related compliance.

- Sound knowledge of Australian accounting, taxation and statutory reporting requirements.

- Strong accounting-software skills (MYOB) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to reconciliations, reporting and recordkeeping.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions.

- The ability to prioritise competing responsibilities and meet reporting and compliance deadlines.

- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.





- The confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and other team members.

- A high level of integrity, professional discretion and respect for confidential information.

Experience in the construction, manufacturing or related industries will be advantageous but is not essential.
