Do you have a passion for protecting urban forests and experience managing tree pests and diseases? We are seeking an Urban Forest Officer (Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer) to join our Parks, Leisure & Environment team in a temporary role focused on protecting and enhancing the City's urban canopy from emerging biosecurity threats.

About the Role
Reporting to the relevant Coordinator or Team Leader, you will be responsible for delivering tree health assessments, surveillance and biosecurity programs across the City's urban forest, parks, reserves and streetscapes.

You will work closely with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), contractors, arborists and community stakeholders to support early detection, containment and management of PSHB and other biosecurity threats.

Key Responsibilities
• Undertake surveillance, monitoring and response activities for PSHB and other declared pests and diseases.




• Maintain accurate records using asset management and GIS systems.
• Implement and monitor pest and disease treatment, containment and eradication programs.
• Coordinate inspections and management of high-risk host species and priority locations, ensuring compliance with biosecurity regulations relating to the movement, storage and disposal of potentially infested materials.
• Provide specialist advice on tree health, pest management and urban forest biosecurity and deliver community education and awareness initiatives relating to PSHB and tree health.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, maps and briefing materials.
• Support emergency response activities associated with significant pest and disease outbreaks.

About You
Candidates will have demonstrated experience in tree health assessment, arboriculture management and the identification and treatment of tree pests, diseases and biosecurity risks. Knowledge of Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB), host species, biosecurity principles and urban forest management practices.

They will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide evidence-based recommendations. Excellent written communication and technical report writing skills, together with the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, are essential. The successful applicant will be highly organised,



capable of working independently, managing competing priorities and meeting deadline

Qualifications/Tickets/Clearances
• Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain Basic Worksite Traffic Management.
• Possession of valid Western Australian C Class driver’s licence.
• Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate (dated within the last 12 months).
