The Careers Department

Surry Hills

Help shape how young Australians connect education with the world of work.

The Careers Department is looking for a highly organised, proactive and relationship-driven Program Coordinator to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves making things happen; coordinating programs, working with schools and industry partners, delivering events and activations, and making sure every moving part comes together.

The role is perfect for someone who loves working face to face with students; and you will be travelling across our school network running sessions with students and teachers.

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, is exceptional with the details and genuinely enjoys working with people.

NOTE: This role includes travel.

About the role

You’ll help coordinate the delivery of The Careers Department’s school, industry and community programs across Australia.

The role combines project coordination, school engagement, stakeholder management, event delivery, communications and reporting.

You might be coordinating a school workshop one week, working with an industry partner on a regional activation the next, supporting the rollout of a current careers program, or analysing engagement data to understand what we can improve.

You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your programs, contribute ideas and help us continually improve how we engage students, educators and employers.

Key responsibilities

- Coordinate the planning and delivery of careers education and outreach programs across schools and communities

- Manage program timelines, deliverables and stakeholder communications

- Work closely with schools, teachers and careers advisers to coordinate participation and engagement

- Build strong relationships with industry partners, employers, universities, training organisations and community organisations

- Coordinate school workshops, careers events,

industry activations and other face-to-face programs

- Support regional programs, including coordinating travel, venues, schools, employers and event logistics

- Represent The Careers Department at school presentations, events, workshops and industry activations

- Coordinate speakers, volunteers, industry representatives and program partners

- Prepare high-quality program communications, resources, presentations and briefing documents

- Keep internal project trackers, calendars and program documentation accurate and up to date

- Collect and analyse participation, engagement and program impact data

- Assist with partner reporting and program evaluation

- Identify opportunities to improve programs, processes and participant experience

- Support the wider team with the rollout of new education and industry initiatives

About you

You’re someone who is known for being organised, reliable and able to get things done.

You naturally think ahead, notice the small details and enjoy taking responsibility for a project from start to finish.

You’re equally comfortable speaking with a teacher, presenting to a group of students, coordinating with a corporate partner or sitting down to build a detailed project plan.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Experience in education, program coordination, project management, stakeholder engagement, events, community engagement or a similar role

- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills

- Strong attention to detail

- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines

- A proactive mindset and confidence working independently

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Confidence building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders

- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills

- Confidence working with spreadsheets, project trackers, presentation software and online platforms

- A willingness to jump in and help wherever needed

- A genuine interest in education, young people, careers or the future of work
