Senior Software Engineer - Data & API Platforms. Canberra or Sydney | Hybrid Working | NV1 Eligible.
We are partnering with a high-profile Federal Government organisation undergoing a major digital and regulatory transformation program. An chance is available for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional delivery team focused on modernising large-scale data and API capabilities.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys building high-performance distributed systems, working across up-to-date cloud-native technologies, and contributing to mission-critical platforms with significant national impact.
What Youll Be Doing
Develop and deliver high-quality API and data pipeline solutions aligned to approved architecture and engineering best practices
Support technical release coordination for both internal and external delivery activities
Monitor, manage, and proactively mitigate risks relating to system performance and API availability
Collaborate closely with engineers, testers, analysts, and stakeholders within agile delivery teams
Contribute to broader platform uplift initiatives and continuous improvement activities
Build scalable, resilient applications leveraging both SQL and NoSQL data sources
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
5+ years' experience in Senior Software Engineering roles
Strong Java development experience
Commercial experience with:
Apache Spark
Kafka
Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
Experience designing efficient processing algorithms and optimising application performance
Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools including Kubernetes and Rancher
Experience with CI/CD and continuous delivery tools such as Jenkins
Robust understanding of automated testing frameworks
