A well-established, growing consumer lending business with a data science function that has real influence on the P&L.; The models and tools this team builds feed directly into decisions on credit, pricing, retention and collections, not just dashboards nobody looks at. It's a secure, established business with room to build and shape a growing capability, backed by decent tooling and a genuine seat at the table with senior stakeholders.

Role and responsibilities
You'll lead a team of six to seven data scientists, with the retention function now folded into your remit as well. This is a newly available leadership role following an internal move, so there's real scope to shape how the team operates going forward.

Day to day you'll oversee the team's modelling work across credit risk, pricing and retention, from credit decisioning and behavioural models through to ECL-style models. You'll manage priorities, mentor the team, and make sure what gets built actually deploys cleanly and holds up in production. You'll work closely with stakeholders across credit,



collections, marketing and finance, translating model outputs into decisions they can act on. How hands-on you stay with the modelling itself is flexible and can be shaped around what you want the role to look like.

You'll also have a hand in lifting the team's technical maturity: model monitoring, CI/CD for ML, and general engineering discipline across the group.
Key technical skills
Proven experience leading or mentoring a data science team
Solid background in credit risk modelling (credit decisioning, behavioural or ECL-style models) within a regulated or lending workplace
Strong Python and SQL
Comfortable with cloud-based ML deployment (Azure or equivalent)
Understanding of the full model lifecycle: development, deployment, monitoring, maintenance
Confident communicating with non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership
Exposure to Gen AI or LLM tooling is a plus, not a must

Location
North Sydney. Hybrid, 3 days in office.
