JOB DESCRIPTION – COOK

Position Summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food according to the restaurant’s recipes, quality standards, and food safety requirements. The Cook must maintain a clean and organised kitchen while ensuring food is prepared efficiently and consistently.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and cook Indian dishes, curries, rice, naan, snacks and other menu items.
Follow standard recipes, portion sizes and presentation requirements.
Prepare ingredients including chopping, marinating, seasoning and cooking.
Ensure all food is cooked to the required quality and temperature.
Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and food safety.
Keep kitchen equipment, cooking areas and workstations clean and organised.
Monitor food stock and inform the manager when ingredients are running low.
Minimise food wastage and use ingredients efficiently.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures.




Assist with receiving and storing food supplies.
Work efficiently during busy service periods and maintain consistent food quality.
Cooperate with other kitchen staff and restaurant team members.
Perform other reasonable kitchen duties as required by the manager.

Skills and Requirements
Previous experience as a Cook, preferably in an Indian restaurant.
Positive knowledge of Indian cooking techniques and ingredients.
Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen.
Valuable teamwork and communication skills.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.

The Cook is expected to maintain consistent food quality, follow food safety procedures, work efficiently, maintain cleanliness and contribute positively to the overall operation of the restaurant.
