FOH Supervisor → Venue Manager Pathway
Next Door Espresso
Next Door Espresso is looking for a strong, calm and confident
FOH Supervisor with the opportunity to progress into a Level 4 Venue Manager position.
We are looking for someone with previous hospitality leadership experience who can confidently lead a busy café floor, take ownership of service and, most importantly,
learn and uphold the systems and standards that make Next Door run well.
You will initially join us as a
FOH Supervisor
, giving you the opportunity to learn the Next Door way, understand our team and operations, and demonstrate your ability to lead within our systems.
For the right person, the goal is to
progress into a Level 4 management position
once you can confidently run service, uphold our standards and take greater ownership of the venue.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on leadership position.
Initially, your focus will be learning our systems, service standards, team structure and daily operations while taking responsibility for leading shifts.
You will be on the floor actively directing the team, managing workflow and ensuring our service and operational standards are being followed.
You will work closely with management while learning the role, but the expectation is that you will quickly develop the confidence and knowledge to independently run shifts and progress into greater venue responsibility.
We are not looking for someone to come in and reinvent our systems.
We are looking for a strong leader who can learn what works, execute it consistently and ensure the team does the same.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and run daily FOH service from the pass
• Direct and coordinate the FOH team throughout the day
• Learn, follow and uphold Next Door systems and standards
• Ensure staff are productive, focused and completing their responsibilities
• Monitor service through the KDS and manage workflow from the pass/expo position
• Maintain excellent customer service and ensure customers are acknowledged and looked after
• Delegate tasks clearly and follow up to ensure they are completed correctly
• Manage staff breaks and make on-the-day adjustments based on trade
• Send staff home early or extend shifts when operationally required
• Assist with sick calls and on-the-day roster adjustments
• Oversee FOH prep,

daily tasks and ordering through our internal systems
• Identify operational or service issues early and resolve or escalate them appropriately
• Hold the team accountable to established standards in a calm and professional way
PROGRESSION TO VENUE MANAGER
This position has been designed as a pathway into a
Level 4 Venue Manager role
.
We believe the best managers understand the operation first.
Your initial Supervisor period allows you to learn our systems, understand how Next Door operates and demonstrate your leadership on the floor before taking on broader management responsibility.
The ideal candidate will progress quickly by demonstrating:
• Strong understanding of Next Door systems and procedures
• Ability to independently run a successful shift
• Consistent leadership and communication
• Ability to hold standards without creating unnecessary conflict
• Good judgement when making operational decisions
• Solid organisation and follow-through
• Ownership of problems and willingness to find solutions
• Ability to lead the team while still following the wider direction of the business
Once these foundations are demonstrated consistently, there will be an opportunity to progress into the
Level 4 Venue Manager position with increased responsibility and ownership of venue operations.
LEADERSHIP EXPECTATION
A major part of this role is being comfortable
leading people in real time
.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Previous supervisory, management or senior hospitality leadership experience
• Experience leading a busy café or restaurant floor
• Strong, calm and confident leadership style
• Excellent customer service standards and awareness
• Highly organised and proactive
• Comfortable directing staff and holding standards
• Able to make decisions confidently during busy service
• Comfortable using modern hospitality systems such as Deputy, POS and KDS

• Experience with Square is advantageous but not essential
• Comfortable working from an iPad and learning digital systems
• Someone who follows systems closely rather than relying solely on their own way of doing things
• Someone who naturally takes ownership and follows through
• Someone who wants to develop into a broader management position
IMPORTANT
This role is not suited to someone who prefers to stay within one section of the café or who is uncomfortable directing others.
We are looking for someone who naturally:
• Sees what is happening across the entire floor
• Notices when standards are slipping
• Steps in and corrects issues early
• Keeps the team focused and moving
• Communicates clearly with FOH and BOH
• Takes responsibility for how their shift runs
• Wants to learn the business and progress
HOURS
• Typically structured around
4 x approximately 10-hour days per week
• Roster may vary depending on business needs
• Daytime hospitality — no late-nights
INITIAL EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION
The position will initially commence on a
casual basis for approximately 3 months
while you learn our systems and we assess overall fit, leadership and operational capability.
We aren't looking to keep the right person at Supervisor level indefinitely.
If you learn our systems quickly, consistently uphold our standards and demonstrate that you can confidently lead the venue, the intention is to progress you into the Level 4 Venue Manager role.
ABOUT NEXT DOOR
Next Door Espresso is a fast-paced, community-driven café where customer experience is at the forefront of everything we do.
We have built strong systems around service, quality and consistency and are looking for leaders who can help us continue strengthening those foundations as the business grows.
We value people who take pride in their work, support their team, take ownership and genuinely want to progress.
APPLY
If you're an experienced hospitality leader looking for a daytime role where you can
start by learning the operation and progress into venue management
, we'd love to hear from you.
Tell us a little about your previous leadership experience, the size and style of venues/businesses you've worked in, and what you're looking for in your next role.
