The Coffee Club is a successful and widely recognised Australian café franchise with an established reputation for quality food, coffee and welcoming service.
Our Waurn Ponds venue serves local residents, families, shopping centre customers, employees and visitors across breakfast, brunch, lunch, takeaway and delivery services.
We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Cook to join our kitchen team on a permanent full-time basis.
The successful applicant will combine strong practical cooking ability with advanced hospitality knowledge and an understanding of food quality, operational coordination, customer expectations and structured franchise standards.
II.
About the Role
The Cook will prepare, season, cook, portion and present breakfast, brunch, lunch and café-style meals in accordance with established recipes, portion specifications and presentation requirements.
The position involves working across grills, fryers, ovens, stovetops, refrigerated preparation areas and meal assembly stations.
The Cook will also support food storage, stock control, kitchen cleanliness, service coordination and communication between the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
Due to the structured franchise environment and the operational responsibilities attached to the position, applicants must hold a minimum Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or a higher relevant qualification.
This qualification is important because the Cook must understand not only food preparation and cooking techniques but also hospitality operations, food safety systems, stock utilisation, service coordination, quality control and customer service standards.
III.
Key Responsibilities
i.
Examine meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, dairy products and other ingredients to confirm freshness, quality and suitability before preparation.
ii.
Prepare ingredients by washing, trimming, slicing, chopping, measuring, marinating, seasoning and portioning food for breakfast, brunch and lunch service.
iii.
Prepare and cook café-style meals using grilling, frying, baking, roasting, boiling,
poaching, sautéing, toasting and reheating methods.
iv.
Operate and regulate grills, fryers, ovens, stovetops, hotplates, sandwich presses and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
v. Follow established recipes, preparation procedures, portion requirements and presentation standards to maintain consistency across customer orders.
vi.
Season, portion, arrange and present meals with the correct sauces, garnishes, dressings, side dishes and accompaniments.
vii.
Coordinate multiple dine-in, takeaway, collection and delivery orders during busy breakfast, lunch, weekend and public holiday service periods.
viii.
Prepare meals for reasonable dietary requirements and allergen-related requests while preventing cross-contamination and following food-safety procedures.
ix.
Monitor stock levels, receive deliveries, store ingredients correctly, rotate stock and minimise food wastage through careful preparation and portion control.
x.
Maintain clean and hygienic cooking stations, equipment and storage areas while assisting junior employees and communicating with kitchen, management and front-of-house staff.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
i.
A minimum Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or a higher relevant hospitality qualification.
ii.
At least 18 months of relevant commercial cooking experience.
iii.
Previous experience working in a busy café, restaurant, bistro, hotel, catering business or comparable commercial kitchen.
iv.
Practical experience preparing breakfast, brunch, lunch and café-style menu items.
v. Experience using commercial grills, fryers, ovens, stovetops, hotplates and food-preparation equipment.
vi.
Sound knowledge of food safety, kitchen hygiene, allergen management, temperature control and stock rotation.
vii.
Experience following structured recipes, portion specifications, preparation procedures and presentation standards.
viii.
The ability to manage several customer orders accurately during busy service periods.
V. Importance of the Advanced Diploma Requirement
The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management is an essential requirement for this position.
The Coffee Club Waurn Ponds operates within a structured franchise environment where food preparation must be supported by consistent operational and customer-service standards.
The Cook must understand how recipe compliance, food safety, ingredient use, kitchen workflow, portion control and service timing contribute to the wider performance of the venue.
The qualification provides the advanced hospitality knowledge required to support these responsibilities.
It also equips the successful applicant to contribute to kitchen organisation, stock utilisation, quality control, service coordination and the guidance of junior employees.
Applicants who do not hold an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or a higher relevant qualification will not meet the essential qualification requirements of the position.
